first mod - cup holder "fix" (I'm very bored)
So after two weeks of driving the TL around I couldn't help but notice there was a bit of a cupholder situation. Cans and cups don't seem to agree with the front cup holder. I did read the cup holder thread and had a good laugh...
And for you viewing pleasure:
To some it may look like a hockey puck. To others it could be a "ho ho", "ding dong" (lol) or whatever those chocolate cupcake things are. The true vet will notice that it is a PVC cap painted blank.
Bad:
Good:
lol?
The unpainted variant was questioned by passengers so I classed it up a bit with a quick paint job...
Overall I'd call it a dollar well spent .

good: open mouth cup is easly more accessable.
bad: wide open mouth cup in nice TL interior = dissaster waiting to happen.
i dont allow that kind of cups in the Type-S.

The red cup shown above is what I call a "tailgate cup." Very bad idea to use that in the car in Virginia because a tailgate cup invariably contains beer or liquor!

2" PVC end cap and some hacksaw work
haha wow, I've never heard the term "tailgate cup". I'll admit the pictured cup *may* have contained whiskey and coke but it was all I had handy. Small drive through coffee cups and cans are the usual customers.

"Tailgate cup" because at pregame football tailgates everybody has either red or blue opaque cups that look just like that. I suppose the fraternities used those at parties too, but that's much longer ago for me!

I think he just used that open cup as a height example.
I did the same sort of mod a while back by taking the cap off a rattle can and putting a wrap of closed cell foam around it and dropping it in the front holder.
I must say tho .. of all the cars I have had the TL has the least driver user friendly cup holders I have ever experienced.
They are too far back and too close to the arm rest and too low.

To the OP, not dissing your mod. Seems like a good idea for AT owners.

oh you would love a BMW-5 series (or maybe they all have it). Its this clip thing that folds out and is pretty much useless.

I use those as well. They keep the cupholders clean and they elevate smaller things nicely, although for the most part as I said before I only allow travel mugs (but I will sometimes allow a can of soda if it hasn't been opened and will not be opened until we are out of the car).

That is actually a good idea, but don't they fall apart toward the end of the season? Wahoo wah!
