First impression after tranny replacement
First impression after tranny replacement
I picked up my 2005 5AT TL after a tranny replacement at 107K. The first thing I noticed was that there is a deeper groan/growl coming from the engine bay when accelerating. Prior to the tranny swap, I would characterize the revving sound as more of a higher-pitch "whine" (not a whine, but I think you guys get the picture.. uh.. sound..). I'm not sure if this is due to an actual change in the tranny (vs the 2005 original) or if this is how it *should* sound like.
In thinking back several years ago (2006, 2007), I noticed that this is the same sound (or very similar) that was coming out of the 2006 loaner TLs that I was getting occasionally. Is it possible that they put in an "updated" tranny? (of course I know that this is a remanufactured tranny)
Steering is a bit stiff, although this is very similar to what I've been experiencing from time-to-time. I expect this to loosen up at random, especially after extended driving.
The tranny swap was accompanied with an unplanned need to swap out the front engine mount (it was cracked completely around the circular part), but it did come with a pleasant surprise in the form of an alignment (I've aligned this thing twice in less than a year and both times all toes were off like a mutha..).
Next up: Swap out the fluid for D4 or Type F -- Perhaps I should do this over three separate 1x3 drain/fills? What do you guys think? I basically have little of the original fluid left, if any.

I should add that they swapped out the 3rd and 4th gear pressure sensor switches as well. They said this is part of the tranny swap. I didn't ask for the old switches, so I guess I'll have to take their word for it. I do have a new set of switches that I'll put in at around 15-18K miles on the new tranny.
