and acquired a CPO 2007 TL-Type S with 39156 miles, black exterior, grey interior, nav, and 6-speed manual.
The dealer's warranty math says I'm CPO covered until 7/27/13 or 62K, and they offerred to extend that until 7/27/15 and 100K for $1400. I said no thanks, since:
1. The car is 5 years old and CPO, so things are working
2. Failures are more likely after 3 years. (after all, my 14 year old SAAB doesn't have an extended warranty, and its failures would not be covered anyway)
3. Acura's quality reputation says I should expect to be trouble free.
Anybody have thoughts/experience they would like to share?
Thanks,
Craig

Congrats man! I honestly think an 2007 is a 50/50 for the warranty. My 04 has definitely gone in for over 1400 worth of repair over the first 2 years under warranty. They replace my buttseats, tires, 3rd taillight, numerous LEDs in the cabin, etc. If I had warranty right now, I would have them take a look at my torque converter, my 3rd gear shudders the whole car at around 32 mph. But that tranny fix is expensive.
The 2007 should have all its problems fixed by now and all, the warranty is really up to you. I think you should keep the 1400 for mods

You read my mind. As I sat down I thought the same thing. Take some pics and post/email them. Getting out of the dealership took 6 hours, and at that point it was getting dark and all I wanted to do was row, row, row. Right now, I'm taking my wife and son to William and Mary for a look(more rowing), so it won't be until later.
Re:$1400 extended warranty. I think I have that coverage until 7/2014 and 100K, so I get one additional year there for the bucks. That's not so inticing if the trans is the only thing I buy it for.
As an aside, my daily driver was a 97 SAAB 900 SE 2.0 Turbo, and during its life its trans burned me for: 3 self adjusting clutch cables(they snap when the seals leak and gum up the insides), 2 seal leaks requiring a drop, clean, and reseal, and a clutch with the last seal replacment. I am no stranger to failed transmissions! It's performed flawlessly for the last few years, except that the new clutch torqued reverse so much that if you don't hold the shifter fairly tightly while backing, it will pop out and GRIND!
SAABs and their owners are a quirky bunch, as I think this is just "normal" behavior. Har
I am psyched to have the TL. The reliablilty and performance are the bomb. (can I say kick ass in this forum?)

Tomorrow, I get to play hooky from work and drive two hours each way to the Blue Ridge mountains to pick my daughter up from camp. My timing on this purchase could not have been better!

i have an 05 with a 6MT, original owner, almost 57k mi. no major issues to report. your 07 type-s...if treated well during it's experience with the first owner...you should be fine. the TL has a few of it's own quirks but nothing that involves the mechanical aspect of the vehicle (at least on 6MT side of things). maybe only the notchy 3rd gear...maybe i'm one of the lucky few...i get the cranky 3rd gear every blue moon and i'm still on the honda fluid.
nice.
First thing after syncromesh fluid would be check-valve delete IMO. My buddy got a CPO 6-speed as well and was a little concerned at first about it for warranty purposes (tinkering with the car and all that), but he's had his car in several times since and they never notice such a small thing as deleting the check-valve.

Grats on the purchase and welcome!
04 with currently 70k miles that i got feb '11 at 52k with no major problems and it has never left me stranded.
other than a notchy gearbox when cold it's a great car. Enjoy your TL-S!
