It Finally happened...

So I've had my car since end of August and as of this past Friday I noticed it...a scratch...actually a couple close together. I was beyond pissed..still am..damn inconsiderate people. *sigh* Anyway So I took some pics in hopes that someone can point me in the right direction on how to fix them and/or cover them up. They are noticeable visually as well as if you run your finger over it you can feel it. I posted a pic of it. The other pic is of what looks like something having rubbed against the door and left it white but it is still smooth to the touch. I tried to polish it out s ome but didn't work. Any help that can be offered I'd appreciate.

Either Touch-up Paint or attempt to remove w/ Waxing.

I would personally Wax it out.

A good place you should have posted this in is the Wash and Wax section. They get those questions all the time and there are some really good detailers that hang in that section. Good luck.

also....if you have a UDM with an orange pad I bet they come out. I had some scratches similar to those and I used some optimum compound and polish at a low speed and it came right out.

Rub your fingernail over each scratch to see if the nail "catches" the scratch. If it does, not cannot be buffed out - you will have to repaint it. Buffing will only slightly mask the scratch.

If the nail does not catch the scratch, you can buff it out. I would recommend Meguire's Ultimate Compound.

First picture looks like it will rub out, try a rubbing compound.

I'm with you on the inconsiderate people though, drives me insane.

i would say you could buff it out. its doesnt look that deep. if you happen to have a porter cable with a polishing pad, it should do the trick along with some polish, if that doesnt work, then move on to the compound. always start with less abrasiveness

partially true, we just fixed up a porsche 911 that was keyed on the passenger side, from the hood all the way down to the trunk(or is it the other way around? ) and it was DEEP, we use this special stuff that lets us "blend" the paint together

Clay bars will not remove scratches it will only make the scratch less visible by removing the contaminants that have filled the scratch i.e paint trasnfer, road grime/dirt etc..

Does this special stuff have a name? does it actually get rid of the scratch or is it a filler such as a glaze? whats the secret sauce....

Maybe you watched the Billy Mays infomercial haha jk.

lol Billy Mays!

I feel you on the scratches. I was cleaning my car today when I noticed what seemed to be a new dent and a deep scratch (looked keyed). yeah I was confused and frustrated..
I'm thinking maybe a light sand and polish?

first pic looks like it can be fixed with rubbing compound.. second pic, i cant see a thing!

if nothing works, dont sweat it man. its a small area and you'll get over it. dont look at it, or point it out to people, it'll slowly fade in your mind.

thanks for all the ideas I will have to look into them. The seond pic is really bad I took it with a cell phone but basically it is just a little white scuff mark but feels smooth to the touch. The first pic if you run your finger over it you can feel the scratch so it is fairly deep or atleast will need more than just a basic polishing. I was gonna clean it andm aybe use some tuchup paint so it would be as visible because I doubt I will be able to restore it to being smooth and perfect like it was before

it actually isnt made anymore since is illegal or something LOL. basically, it melts to clearcoat and allows you to blend the clearcoat into the scratch. but you need a wheel and you NEED to know what your doing otherwise you will strip the paint off

That just looks like paint transfer to me, not an actual scratch. Should come right off with some Scratch-X.

Same here. Looks like a little scuff/paint transfer.

Any good semi-abrasive polish or buffing compound should remove the surface scuff.

Leave it. After the first one or two, you won't be as pissed at the next 100 lol. People are just too inconsiderate and no matter how hard you try, your car will get scratched.

I nearly went to jail...literally because I caught the people who dented and scratched mine and got handcuffed but released.

Looks like some paint cleaner will fix that. Doesn't look bad at all.

LOL. You should've seen the side of my car. It had 4 dents from people unloading band equipment from a minivan to play at a bar/restaurant and numerous scratches.

I let them watch as I beat the crap out of their car and some of their equipment. Not cool, I shouldn't have done it but 4 dents and scratches down to the metal is not an accident.
