Finally, GN vs GTR
Finally, GN vs GTR
It always happens this way. We have one of the cars running super good and the second we detune it we run into something worth running.
This is my friend's GN we just took out the modded CL65 with. It was set at 28psi boost with the exhaust open for the race with the Mercedes. Stock engine from the throttlebody down, basic bolt-ons. I've been driving it to work lately so I capped up the exhaust and turned the boost down to 24psi because I was giving rides to co-workers every hour lol.
Today the friend and owner came to pick it up and take it back to LA. Of course what happens, we pull up behind a GT-R in a double left turn lane. The guy is staring in his rearview mirror so I'm fairly sure he's going to play. As the light goes green he goes around the corner and punches it. We follow but have to wait a little longer to punch it. It dug in hard and the drag radials stuck pretty good, it spun a little from 30-65mph but didn't have to back out. We immediately made up the difference and had to let off to keep from rear ending him. In fact we almost had to hit the brakes. So the GT-R is still in it, my friend punches it again but by now the Nissan has too many mph on us. We manage to stay about 10' off of his rear bumper but we had to shut it down before we could overtake him....if we could overtake him. As the speeds get higher the GN is at more and more of a disadvantage so I'm not sure what would've happened with more space.
If only I hadn't turned the boost down by 4psi. But that's the way it goes, a race is a race and we lost today so props to a very nice car.

I am sure the GN would had taken the GTR no problem in a clean race.
I hate losing a drag race due to technical difficulties (in your case, no clear running space) versus true hp-versus-hp. Heck, I even hate to win too if it is not true hp-versus-hp
But on real streets, you take whatever situation you can get that comes close..... even like racing uphill

As far as I know. What happened was about right if it was stock. Stock GN engine with 24psi and some external bolt-ons typically trap 119-124mph. This car has almost made it into the 10s at 28psi but I have no idea what it runs at 24psi.
The GT-R is too fast of a car to back off the throttle and get back into it and expect to catch up. In a 1/4 straight up race there's no doubt we would've taken him, I have a feeling our traps are pretty close but the torque of the GN gives it amazing 0-70 potential.
Sure was fun though even if we lost, I wanted to talk to him but he turned.

Stock was 124mph due to the governor. It was almost funny because it pulled so hard and then felt like you hit the brakes.

I see more & more GTR's around here.. I'm sure more will pop up in your area too but too bad the GN is heading home. It would be nice to hit the track and take one on heads up. Thanks for for sharing! If (more like when) I get a GTR, you and I need to meet up in the desert.. lol.
