FEELER: Clear diffuser?

I noticed a lot of 3G TL guys have been clearing out their headlights. Well what would you say to a clear diffuser? Everything I have ever seen looks pretty bad when actually lit up, the diffuser will spread the light nicely. What do you guys think?

Could you explain more? Diffuse what exactly?

Do you mean like what the 07 TypeS has at the corners except for that little orange piece at the side?

I thought of fabricating something myself but thought
A) It may turn out crappy/unpolished and I don't want my $35k looking like a hackjob.
B) If anything may fall apart/out of place I have to bake and open that sucker again.

If someone were to design, perfect and fabricate something that looks nice, I'm sure they would sell plenty! You need to give us an idea of what this could look like.

In case you didn't notice, we're super visual people on this forum. We need to see something to commit. If it looks hott, believe me, you will get raves and people willing to pay. (for example check out the thread of those TL tail-lights with the cleared and smoked out housing. People are dying for those.)

My dream?? I would like to see the 07 style diffuser except clear all the way. (no orange.) Instead of a white clear look I would rather like them in a light smoke tint. (Matching the front sidemarkers.) I think that would look perfect!

I'm with LKLD on this one...

I think you mean replacing the amber turn signal lens with a clear diffuser lens, right??

If that's what you meant, I would like to see a smoked tinted lens too, so I could black out only in front of the head and fog lights and using amber lights behind the tinted lens for the signals.

Happy Motoring!

There was plenty of interest in this idea before, so I would imagine there still would be (perhaps more since there are now more members, depending on attrition).

Clear and/or a light smoke that matches the side markers would be awesome.

VERY interested, if we could get them to be made well and according to spec. I would love a clear one, but it would HAVE TO STAY CLEAR instead of hazing up like so many of the older generation cleared turn signal light diffusers do.

I'm generally disappointed in the light output from my cleared out turn signal, so anything to make it better would be good. The mod looks hot, but the light output simply sucks.

I think I would be interested in a smoked look that matches the sides. I would want to see it first though.

Of course cleared/smoked looks killer on your NBP darksom! What about us guys with the other colors like anthracite? I think smoked diffusers would look perfect!

The only reason I'd be interested in this is because I want more light output. I'm actually thinking about retracting my original statement that I want them, though, because a big ol' clear lense might look funny, as it really wouldn't be clear; it'd be more of a translucent, which would take away from the look of my clear headlights.

That looks sort of antiquated...like yesteryear, before we had at our disposal what we have now. Rocky, why do you think your heads won't look good as well, with the cleared/blacked look? I have seen them on here on Anth and it looks good!

Whose ride is that? Is that yours, rockyfeller?

I saw some clear/white/translucent diffusers on a Bimmer yesterday (Thursday) and they looked pretty bad, because the headlight portion of the lense was ultra-clear and sweet-looking, but then you had this kinda mismatching translucent signal diffuser housing on the sides and it simply didn't match up well at all. It looked obviously aftermarket and somewhat ricey, which was a shame because the rest of the car looked really clean.

The ones on the TL in that picture above, however, look pretty good. I'd love to see those illuminated and at night.

I thought it might be a good match with the anthracite and the front markers. It might look good and glow orange with the signals/parking lights on and retain a OEM appearance.

YEah darksom I hear ya, I can see what you mean by looking passe...and as Bret said I had it on my old Bimmer too. (I am really into the euro look) But that was a few years back and it looked real good then. It may look kinda 90s now.

Clearing is better. Just thought I'd do something different than just black them out...Carbon fiber inside? I was going to do anthracite but changed my mind. The only thing I don't like is the unfinished appearance of the outer ends where it's chrome under the broken off orange reflectors. When you black them you paint them but they look kinda plain and unfinished. Ahhh screw it I think I am going to do it the half cleared/blacked out look like you darksom.

I have a question for anyone who cleared their headlights,

Do any of you still have your L/R yellow lenses (undamaged and complete) and would you be willing to send them to me? I would cover your shipping cost.

I have heard others have tried or are working on this but, I would like to examine the Lenses and see if I came locate a source for making up a clear and smoked set too. I am making No guarantees and I don't even know how long the research will take but I figure one more person working on this can’t hurt. Besides, I want a smoked pair to go with the side markers and the tail lights and the tinted windows and yada, yada, yada.

Please PM me if you can help.

Thank you!

if anyone has the lenses give me a PM. i will give a discount on a set of cleared ones if this goes through. otherwise i send you back the ambers. not shying you away CAHobbs, but if i do go through with this, i intend on doing 2G CL, 2G TL, and 3G TL, so i probably have a better chance of getting this done.

Yeah, that look is hot, plus it gives you more light output because of the reflector! Did I mention it looks hot?

No problem CleanCL,

I had assumed you already had some of the TL amber diffusers, my bad!!!

Anyone having a set of the TL amber lenses, please contact CleanCL first, after he has everything he needs, please get back to me if you have any more amber lenses.

Good Luck CleanCL and if you get it going, think you can make smoked ones too? I don't mind paying a little extra.

Happy Motoring!
