Had a hard time trying to get the proper tailight to finish. I now have it and will be able to finish. I am going to possibly do a set with just the red reflectors for legal issues.

Post a quick pic if you could of the silver base, clear lenses, and the red reflector. I think that's gonna be the hot ticket.

Is the reflector sitting on top of the finished tail?

Can you assemble the reflector in the unfinished other body?

Either way, that look like the way to go. I like how it keeps a clean line in that the cluster lenses and signal all line up across the bottom.

Another thing that I think might look hot is taking an 07 tail light and leaving the red outline in and just clearing the signal parts. Im not good with photoshop nor do i have the skills and balls to take apart my tail lights lol, but thats just an idea.

I know what you're saying. Again, these are all option on the table See the previous pages to see what all the different option are.

I personally think the chrome frame is the hottest for WDP, as the chrome complements the chrome accents (Acura badge, front headlights, etc).

I have been following this thread and wondering how the fellow was going to pull this off and not use sweat shop labor to do it or have it done out of the country...otherwise...he would be losing money hand over fist. He would do better hourly getting a job at Micky D's given the labor it appears to take on this and the amt of what we call "waste" in the industry. (waste is parts or materials rendered useless in the process either by mistake or the process itself.

What would be nice would be a "how to" on how he pulled it off...

I know UA6Spec did it too. Sure wold be cool if one of the pioneers would give us some tips so we could try it out ourselves, since it's never gonna be a "business".

I've modded both front an rear sidemarkers with a hacksaw and epoxy. I think I could do this if I knew how to approach the problem.

They are made here in the USA but can only be exported. Cannot be sell here. I try asking my friend who is the R&D for Honda. He said he can't get it or if he does, he will get fired. Best bet is finding someone in China to get it.

I've been working on this mod. I bought a couple of cheap 04 tail lights to play with. I got the first one apart and its definitely a tedious job. You have to be careful not to damage any of the interior parts while cutting it open.

I used a dremel tool with a cutting disc and cut near the edge of the housing. The hard part is removing the chrome frame because it has a flange around it that sits in groove between the red lens and the black part of the housing. After enough cutting and grinding, I was eventually able to get it out without damaging it. I'm hoping the next 04 tail light I will be able to get open easier because I'll have a little better idea of where to cut. I want to get it down pretty good before I start an 07 light.

I got the two tail lights off ebay for under $50 for both. If anybody is gonna try this I recommend to get a cheap one off ebay and just start cutting it open to see how its put together. Oh, and definitely use some safety glasses.

I'll probably start on the second one next week.

Yes....hardest part is cutting the side. But the rest, just cut around the edge as possible. It took me like 30 minute per tail lamp. It's good if you screw up on the regular tail lamp so you know what not to make any mistake on the TL-S tail lamp.

Can you guys take some photos of a dissassembled tail so we can see "the flange" and where you're cutting?

I'll take for $50 shipped...
PM me paypal.

Thanks TL-773. I have the TL-S tails, and the black chrome thing is pretty cool looking, and what I like is how the black chrome on these is continued all the way around the car on the TL-S (trunk trim and grill)...
Unfortunately, retrofitting that theme is not financially viable, as to get the matching black chrome trim pieces you'd have to buy the whole front bumper and rear.

So, I really want to do the chrome clear on my WDP. I'm gonna figure this out.

The hardest part is cutting the side towards the license plate. It's kinda hard to describe until you cut one open yourself. Also once you get the red lens piece seperated from the back piece, you have to grind down some tabs to get the chrome trim out. Again, you'll see once its open. I didn't post any pics of the back side of the tail light because I butchered it pretty good learning how to cut it open. I should be able to cut the next one a lot cleaner.

Actually on the side thats near the license plate, I just cut right through it. On the first cut I didnt do that so eventually the inside piece need to be broken off. But on the second try, I dremeled right though it and it was ok.

A lot of us trying to mimic this on the tail lamp which is only offer for the export version of the Acura TL in China:

US version of the TL from 2004 to 2006 tail lamp are all red. 2007 and up for the TL-S is where the outside housing is clear BUT the interior lens are red on both brake and signal. And the surrounding frame is chrome.

Here is a little teaser. Left tail lamp is 2004-2006 but on the right is the 2007 TL-S tail lamp but in order to have the China version tail lamp signal in clear, you have to cut it out.

So some of use are trying to do that here. But in order to do that you basically have to cut out both the 2004-06 and 2007-up tail lamp.

Enjoy!

I know nothing about the chinese TL, but I have some contacts with work located in china. I'm going to see if I can get someone to go to an acura dealer purchase these taillight, license plate and reverse/3rd brake light housings. It might take a week or two because I'm very tied down at work but if you can buy these I'll def try to get them. Not sure I'll have any use for them but atleast I can find out if they will be a perfect fit and how they look in person etc.

I guess I'm the only one that doesn't like these. They Look somewhat like altezzas, which in the US has a correlation with "rice."

I dont know about you guys, but I get a lot of crap from people saying my stock TL-S rear lights look ricey (idiots), I can't imagine what will happen with these. Maybe that's why Acura never sold them here.
