You should disconnect the battery when doing ANY electrical work. Make sure you have your radio and navi codes first!

I just bought an Acura TL 2006 used, and most the interior lights are out. I would like to replace them all with this LEDs, however, I don't have the time and expertise to do this. Is anyone in Las Vegas can do this. I am willing to pay $100 for the labor. The dealer charges me about $200 include bulbs but I want LED bulbs. Thanks

08 Type-S - Red bulbs or...

I just got an 08 Type-S and the Map/Guide Menu buttons aren't illuminated. Does anyone know if they are red bulbs or white bulbs that have a film on them?

I've done a search, but can't find anything. I've been up reading for the past 3 hours...lots to learn, a little tentative about doing too much to the car, it was a super clean find in FL.

They would most likely be white bulbs with a plastic condom in red. My 06 base had white bulbs with blue condoms, so I can't speak to the TL-S.
A quick and easy way to find out would be to pull out the plastic gauge cover piece from the dash and check the bulbs in the illumination control or MID control. That whole piece just pulls straight out towards you. Unclip the 2 harnesses and unscrew one of the control units. Pop out a bulb and see what you have.
If you're going to have it apart anyway, buy a couple of T3 NeoWedge bulbs in red to see if you like the red LED look---you would need 4 bulbs to complete the area I've been talking about.

The whole unit (HVAC/Navi/stereo) comes out as one unit. There is a video DIY for taking apart the entire center console in the 3G Garage. Once you have the unit out, you will see how to disassemble it. To get the face of the stereo off, peel back the felt along the top and bottom and unscrew the screws underneath. If you want to replace these lights with LEDs, PM DeathMetal to see if he is still making the LED boards for the stereo.

Damn! I thought I discovered something new when I did this a few months ago. dwb I wish I had your skills for the radio but I have zero experience soldering.

My radio looks stupid compared to how bright my hvac controls are now

quana: PM DeathMetal to see if he is still putting together the boards. It makes putting LEDs into the radio face a simple matter of inserting the board and tapping the illumination circuits. I would show you a pic of mine, but I had a bad solder point on the board and 80% of the lights are out. I need to dive back into my dash for some other installs and will fix it then.

Guys, I'm here if you have questions about any of these LED upgrades. Keep in mind that these DIYs were written in 2009----the technology has evolved a lot since then. In most cases, soldering is NOT needed.

I have zero soldering experience and hands on circuitry knowledge. I'm scared to start opening parts and ramming new lights in. One of these days though I'll just take apart everything and just scout it all out before ordering some bulbs.
I just bought a 2005 TL and a bunch of the lights are out.

Not sure how you would be able to fit a t4/t5 WEDGE bulb into a twist-socket bulb holder. If you're savvy enough, I bet you could though but you'll be promoting a LOT of hot spots and don't think there's ample space for them. Be the trailblazer!

Sorry guys. Been away from AZ for a while.
Using the T3 bulbs, there is no soldering required.
More details on individual locations can be found in the F-165 series of threads in the 3G garage.
Also, search for the TL Service Manual in searchable PDF format -- there's a thread on here somewhere with a link.

I had a few dash lights out and we all know that's annoying. Just a normal feature in an aging TL. I knew how to get to all of them except the ones around the radio. Thanks to this thread the answer is what I thought it was. I have to take the radio apart. Something I attempted in the past, blah, I'm too lazy, lol.

There was a time a few years ago when the car was still fresh and I would have attempted practically any mod. I wanted to do the full LED conversion back then but knowing that practically every bulb was a different part number and had different resistance values I didn't want to screw it up. I got the skill with the hands but not the brains. lol. This thread reminded me once again that I have to say to all of you who have attempted this and posted all the DIYs. I just don't have the patience to do it but trust me I can appreciate the work involved and the pics look awesome.

I mentioned long ago trying to get to that pesky red anti-theft LED on the radio board. I'm assuming someone was able to change that as I can see it on the board in the pics. Always wanted mine to be blue to match the one near the door lock pin. And how about the day/night mirror? Anyone able to get that green light out of there? I tried opening my mirror once and almost broke it. I left it with pry marks, lol.

Ask and ye shall recieve...save the mirror. Couldn't get that open, or wasn't well enough compelled to do so after failing a few times.

Sorry to revive this thread....

Just curious....for those who did this mod with the LED's, is still going strong?
I need to replace a few bulbs in my 2006 TL and was thinking of going with the 2008 Type-S red bulbs but don't want to fry the board. Can anyone advise if they've done this and if it's doable?? Tried searching but didn't find anything.

. Does anyone know if I can use Type-S bulbs as long as they're the same voltage? I added a comparison.

I used blue T3 LEDs from amazon. I've had them for more than a year. They're rock solid. When I used another batch on the steering wheel, They started flickering after a month. I've replaced them again and they've been rock solid since. I find that they areconsiderably brighter/sharper than the OEM bulbs, and that's because the OEM bulbs are still rocking the old incadenscent type. It gives a more subtle look but they're quite dim.The type s bulbs should work just fine.

Just keep in mind all those bulbs run on the same circuit. The voltage difference just indicates how bright the bulb will be. It won't blow it or cause a short.
