Extended Warrenty question. think i got ripped off

after reading alot about many other tl owners ext. warrenty, i think i got ripped off. i bought my car in sept 05 with 27k. i bought the extended warrenty (7yr/100k) from paragon acura in queens NY were i bought the car. i didnt know much about the price and how much it should cost for the ext. warr. and since this was my first pricey car with low miles i wanted the warrenty regardless. dont have the exact amount but i beleive they charged me 2700.00 for the warrenty. im currently paying a monthly premium of 118.00 over the next 2 years. to this day, with deposit on the warr. i think ive paid almost 900.00 so far and still have about 2000.00 to go. ive seen others that have bought the warr for much much less and it sickens me to see how much left i still have when i should almost be done paying for it.

is it possible to cancel this contract and buy a new warr from curry acura? does it make sense at this point? a new contract would cost about 1500.00 for coverage up to 100k.

if not, i guess this was a lesson for next time to atleast bargain with the dealer, or buy outside. i did not know any better and just bought when i heard the price. stupid me i guess

Yes, you can cancel the extended warranty (you may have to tell them you sold the car or it was wrecked or something like that) then take it to a new dealer and purchase the warranty again. I only suggest telling them this because of how much you are getting ripped off. What happens is when you cancel it, Acura mails you a check. That price IS a ripoff... almost to the point that I would call Acura Care and complain that there dealers are ripping off customers.... Best of luck to you.. let us know what happens!!

no, you should get almost the entire thing back.... I traded in my first 05 TL with 8k miles... I went back to the dealer and told them. They had me fill out a form to cank my 100k warranty.. couple weeks later i got a check in the mail from Acura for about $22 less than what i paid for it... Somehow its prorated for the life of the car but if you havent gotten close to when it starts (50k miles) then you get most of it back
