YES, a 'full' warranty is a great idea.

NO, powertrain/drivetrain is good enough.

Is extended warranty worth it? (addon to my used car purchase)
Hey guys, I'm new to the TL side. I just bought an '07 TL-S with Navi and 40,000km.
The "full" factory warranty expires 12/18/2010 and I have an extended powertrain/drivetrain warranty until 12/18/2012 (160,000km).
I have the option of changing the extended warranty to a "full" car warranty for an extra year (12/18/2013) and 130,000km.
Currently I put on about 20,000km /year so the KM's shouldn't be a problem.
Is there a history of problems with electrical/window motors/NAVI to make me consider the warranty?
Thanks!

Im not sure about history, but i always like being on the safe side, dont forget one thing that can go wrong you can bring it in. Also, if something electrical like the radio breaks, its really $$$ to replace.
I paid for an extended 2 year warranty on mine. Haven't used it yet, but a friend of mine had a tsx in the past and wish he did have the warranty. Its a gamble.

I'm still on the fence. The warranty will cost $1240CDN and will cover the whole car until 12/2013. Since I am financing the car and it will be paid off around 03/2014, getting the warranty should keep me clear of repair costs for a long time.
However, do you really think the GPS or radio will break? Or how about the power window or sunroof motors? These are sort of things are the ones that I am concerned about.
I have a 2.2CL and the power window motors are known to break down. I replaced it once and its still not working correctly.
Are there any 'common' problems on the TL? (radio, AMT, power motors, power locks, etc...)

yeah that price isn't that bad. I bought an 04 and paid about 1400$ for the bumper to bumper) for an extended 2 year warranty. (got the powertrain for free, it was a promotion)
all in all it was supposed to cost ~2000$

EDIT: The cost is actually $1193+tax so about $1350CDN ($110 more than my original post).
I am leaning towards getting the warranty now. Especially with the expensive electronic components and also the fact that I don't wanna be DIY'ing much on this car. I've been there, done that with my CL. The main reason I bought this car is because I wanted a nice, factory car that I didn't have to mess with (...although the A-Spec skirts are a possible future add-on
)
So it sounds like not much is 'typically' wrong with the TL then?

I bought the extended warranty when I got my car in Jan of '08. Since then, I have had my clutch pedal assembly, clutch master cylinder, EGR valve, and hands free link all replaced under the warranty.
I think it was a good call to get the warranty since all that work surely would have been more than the $1100 it cost me for the extended warranty and I still have 25K more miles left on it. It hurts at the begining when you buy it, but it sure is nice to have it when something comes up!

I spoke with the sales manager and decided to buy. Before I even tried to ask for a discount, she through in a 3yr Tire & Wheel warranty ($299+tax) that covers pot-hole rim damage, tire flats/nails, etc on ANY wheels that are installed on the car (even aftermarket or snow rims/tires). I continued to ask her about each one and then played the "I'm getting married next year and still have school debt" card and asked her if she could do any better.
So for $1235CDN (including tax) I got the extended 'full' warranty (7 years, 130,000km) warranty and a 3yr (from delivery date) tire/wheel warranty.
I'm really happy. Thanks for all the replies.

Good choice in buying the waranty! Sorry for the late reply, but I would've advocated to buy it.
Saved me $$$ too, dealer replaced whole unit for free.
There are a lot of "electrical" parts in our TL's. This was one of my main reasons that persuaded me in getting the extended waranty. The LED's lighting up the buttons on my steering wheel all just blew also, I guess from me using them too much hah. Will be getting them replaced under waranty.
Good deal! Nice bargain

Trying to get a quote on the hondaacuraworld website for the extended warranty. My dealer says $900 (3yr 80K) on a 2005 TL with 49K..How come thats lower than what other people are buying it for?.

i have everything on my car covered. When I got a flat tire, it got towed (no up front money out of my pocket) to the dealership and the new tire, mounting and balancing was all covered. not a penny came out of my pocket. I also wasn't able to start the car. They tested the battery, came back failed, and replaced it on the spot. Definitely saved my self a lot of money.

The way I look at it, over 1350 dollars worth repairs need to be done for it to be worth it. I would rather take my chances than roll the dice. I'll leave the gambling for my trips to Vegas.

I took it too...think it was ~1k just for the peace of mind. It falls into one of those categories where I hope I never have to use it but at least if something happens, I have it! I even went and talked to my personal mechanic who has been working on my cars for the past ten years and he told me to get it. From what he explained, as much as he would like my money to fix my car when it is out of warranty, cars nowadays can by so complicated, he doesn't even want to touch it! ie: the navi, electrical, etc..
