Engine swap

Hi, new to this forum.

have a quick question. I'm looking at possibly guying a 2004 TL that had it's engine overheat. I am considering replacing the engine. Must the ECM be changed or can I just swap the engine from another TL?

If it's the same engine then no. What year TL are you getting the new engine out of? That might help us a little more.

Haven’t started looking yet, just considering buying the car. I would definitely look for a 2004 model engine but is there a range of engines that could be used w/o changing the ECM?

@Aj74cuda, you can use any J32A3 engine from any 2004-2006 Acura TL, or you can drop in a J35A6 from a 2006-2006 Honda Odyssey or a 2005 Honda Pilot. The J35 has a significant bonus in the torque department and is a drop-in replacement for the J32A3.

Rolling our posts together, J35A6 from 2005-2006 LX/EX Odyssey; the 2007 and later have a different bellhousing interface, and the Odyssey EX-L and Touring models use the J35A7 engine.
