Engine number on 3G Type-S

Hi all,

Sorry if this is a noob question: Where can I find the engine number on my 3G Type-S?

I checked the owners manual and it says that the number should be stamped on the engine block, right below the oil filler cap.

I took the plastic cover off and checked, but didn't find a number there. Don't know if those instructions apply to the 3.2L engine only, and maybe it's in a different location for the 3.5L engine.

I did find a number on the side of the engine block, but not where it's stated in the manual.

The number is 1178 2335. Could that be the number? I have no idea what the number sequence should look like, and couldn't find any info on the web.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

That's what I thought it was as well, but apparently that's the engine code which is different than the engine number.
There's supposed to be a separate number on the engine block.
I'm trying to import my car and they are requesting this info.
I'll keep looking but if anyone has this info, please share.

Thanks!

i think the first step is to find out how long the string of code it's supposed to be...
then you can narrow down the engine number
ie; if the form or agents are asking for a 8 number string....you can bet 1178 2335 is it.

That's the other issue. They don't seem to know how long it's supposed to be. I guess it varies from one manufacturer to the next, that's why I was hoping someone on AZ would know.
Guess my last option is to call a dealership for the info...

i found this interesting...if we go by this..we're looking for a six digit number

Identify the engine number. The engine number is a six digit number that follows a three digit engine code. You may notice that the engine number includes three digits followed by six more digits. The first three digits are your vehicle’s engine code and the last six digits are your vehicle’s engine number.[17]

but then i found info that says...starting in 2012, engine codes became 7 digits!

so, going along with this trend....that 8 digit number is MOST likely the engine number
