Engine mounts

I took my 05 tl to my local dealer for an oil change and was told I needed new engine mounts. The car has been driven 94000 miles and is almost seven years old. Is this to be expected or am I just lining the pockets of my dealer?

The front and side mounts are pretty common to failure. Both of mine were toast around 60k miles.

It's common. Our '02 had bad mounts at 66k miles (6 1/2 years) and the '07 had a broken upper transmission mount at 55k miles (4 1/2 years).

Yeah mine has less miles than yours and needs the motor mounts replaced.

^ my prepurchase inspection by a shop only indicated the passenger side, but with all these people having front failures too, i'm not so sure my pass side is the only one...argh I'm not exactly sure what to look or listen for though..i dont experience any shaking after it's warmed up or any clanks when i start/shut the engine off.

Be glad that you don't have any problems lol.

But if you put it in drive, hold the brake and stab the throttle (say around 1,500-2,000 RPM). You'll feel the engine rock back if it's bad and/or hear a clunk or have someone do it and look at the engine.

We offer a more durable engine mount set for the 3rd gen TL. However, it will increase cabin vibration somewhat.

lol i have a 6MT, not too keen on slipping the clutch intentionally..but i might just have to do it. I was hoping i could just have someone start the car while i watch and see how much the engine kicks.

First inspect the mount
Second test the mount
if blown then get Innovative or XLR8 mounts and hello to vibrations

I replaced 2 mounts at around 120,000 miles. Yes, it appears to be common. It's one of the few repairs I've had to do.

You can mention an item you have in the Black Market IF you provide a link and do so only once in that thread. (I think that's right, but refer to Ron A's rules to be certain).

Anyhow, I know you weren't trying to "get by" and circumvent the rules, hence, just a 'reminder' instead of a deleted post.

Not meaning to make big issue of it (even though it probably kind of sounds that way).
