Engine compartment covers "plastics"

How many of you remove the plastics under the hood?
Im thinking about removing them to dissipate heat during these hot summer days.

That's one way of doing it. I was just thinking of removing the engine cowls for the summer and popin them back in during the winter.

It's there for a reason. Maybe the plastic covers help get rid of heat? Plus the engine bay looks kinda ugly all uncovered.

Bare engine

Our engine covers aren't too bad, especially compared to new luxury models.

I am curious though to see if they really do make the engine compartment have more heat build-up...

Weight reduction is always good

I took a good drive today (89° outside temp) got home and when i exited the car i walk around the front of it and i noticed the heat so i opened the hood and a wave of heat just poured out. I took the cowl off the passenger side and it was extremely flimsy and hot so i took all of them off.

I pulled mine off last summer to help reduce the amount of heat under the hood.. then they got thrown out somehow and I am going to buy new ones since it didn't do a whole lot

Justin,
Any tips on how to keep the engine bay clean like yours?

Also, of course these contribute to a little bit of heat increase. Its the same way a blanket works on a chilly morning. All should also expect a wave of heat when you open the engine bay. You have created thousands of tiny fires every mile you drove.
Almost all engines are called internal combustion for a reason. And where there is fire, there is heat.

I've thought about it but it's not really that big of a deal for me. I don't see it reducing the heat enough to have any really performance advantage.

So much discussion about something that only you or a mechanic see's on a periodic basis.

It's like stressing over your underwear.

The craziest idea was they are there to assist in cooling!

My buddy has 2008 TL BASE. His plastics cover the entire engine with the manifold as a logo.

I have 2004 TL BASE. my plastics go around the center of the engine exposing the top of the motor.

Why did Acura Change this design. Looks cheesy on the new TL.
Our motor looks much better.2004-2006

The engine covers doesn't really do much to dissipate heat. Innacurate does it for the weight reduction. I would rather have the covers on because my engine area gets way to dirty from my continual driving (but I lost them!). Now making holes in the cowl, and some parts in the UCM will help with the heat.

I have a 4G and I took mine off and they are in the basement. I just think it looks better without the covers. Like to see the mechanicals. I also think it's easier to work on and easier to keep clean. If they were on, I would never think to pipe down the engine.

lol..in case of sweaty balls syndrome. The sweat accumulates around the groin area vs. dripping down the inside of your thigh.

Lol! the engine cowls are like underware. Either you take them off and free ball or you leave them on and sweat.
