Emblem removal
AZ,
I got a heat gun and I am wanting to remove the rear emblems for a cleaner look.
Does anyone in the community have a good technique for removing the real labels with out damaging the car paint ?
I have been told a couple different techniques(kite string, Heat Gun), but would like to hear from you guys.
Lastly, would I have to worry about any residual adhesive ?
Thanx

I didn't use a heat gun or dental floss.....mine just came off and when I pulled on them. They didn't break either. Then.......lots of goo gone and patience! Take your time to make sure you clean it up really well and then wax the areas a couple times after washing off the goo gone. I wouldn't use a heat gun, cause you're likely to damage the paint, just my two cents.

Don't feed the...WTF?
I didn't even need a heat gun, and it was pretty cool out when I did it (50's maybe?)
Just get yourself some dental floss - works like a champ. The wax coating should ensure no marks on paint, and I think it probably also aides in cutting through the double-sided foam tape they use.
So forget the heat in my opinion. Grab the floss, and some goo-gone (I used WD-40), and re-wax the back of the car when your done.
Should take no longer than 30 minutes to get it all done.

I used a hair dryer, warmed them up, ran floss behind them then warmed up the left over glue and rolled it off with my fingers, cleaned the area and waxed it. Looks great

Removing the trunk liner is a waste of time. The emblem can be easily removed from the exterior.
I carefully use a plastic pry tool, and the emblem pries right off very easily. Then I use an eraser wheel on a drill (low speed) to remove the left over adhesive. You will need to remove all the old adhesive tape on the emblem and replace it with new tape. Try not to damage the thin gaskets around the white push pins, and re-use.
I also polished the paint around the center emblem area since it was a little dull. If its in a cold environment a heat gun will soften the adhesive so it comes apart easily.
