Email thread from Dealer regarding pricing.

My note:

Please tell you Manager, that I will order a White/Ebony 6MT w/ Nav. for $32,500 + taxes minus destination charges. I've seen '05's in this configuration (different color) for $31,700.

Please let me know if you can match this, if so, I will order.

Thank you,

Dealers response:

If you know where you can find a 05 for $ 31,700 and if it is still available you should go get it! I really doubt you saw one that low because I think that was the selling price of a TL w/o navigation. The invoice on a 05 TL w/navigation is $32,900. Normally, Acura Dealers will not sell below invoice.

The 06 models will not be discounting anything like a year end 05 models. The MSRP on the 06 TL w/navigation (auto or 6MT) is $35,940.

I can order you a 06 six-speed TL w/navigation for $ 35,500 plus TT&L.

I know, ridiculous. It was in Houston. I need a new car, and I'm going to buy a TL, but I'm not in a rush, and I'll be patient. I've already seen several other deals here much better than anything I've seen from Sterling McCall.

downtown,

Shop around. Very often you have a chance of getting a better deal if you show your face in person. Remember, this is the very beginning of the new model year and therefore discounts on the '06's will be slim to none just about anywhere for the time being. That's why you'll get a superior deal on an '05 leftover.

I had a dealer write to me that he was "100% sure" I would not get my TL for the price I told him I found (also less than invoice).

After picking up my car for exactly that price, I could not resist writing him back. I hope for his sake he stays away from Las Vegas.

This dude or dude-et is crack smoking. Invoice for an 05 is $31,985 plus you should be able to get an 06 under MSRP. There is no real change in the 06's and the IS's will take some market share. I agree with the other poster go in and talk face to face and use those old jedi mind tricks.

Thanks guys - I've gone onsite, and I've begun

the process. I also submitted price quotes for every dealer in TX, w/ a request of my price. Whoever gets closest wins. If they waste my time, they lose.

This is the way to do it. It takes a bit of time but imho is better spending time online than driving all over God's creation trying to find somene that will give you the time of day. And most general phone sales conversations will get you intorduced to whomever is on the boiler room floor at the time. I'll only deal with a fleet of email manager now. As soon as anyone gets you on a phone they want you to come in so they can try to work whatever deal they want on you.

I had a very good online experience with my Chevy purchase this way (yeah I know it's a Chevy but Honda don't make a truck that can tow 10,000lbs). They dealt and matched any prices that I could find online. I know GM is in a different situation than Honda currently but I feel their service and accomodation was surprisingly pleasant. And haggeling for a price wasn't an issue. I just told them what I wanted and told them the price and that was it.

I'm actually in the beginning stages of purchasing a TL right now. I contacted a local dealership VIA internet email and started the process but it seems their salesperson for the internet would much rather continue to try and contact me VIA my main business phone number and leave messages in the general voice mail box, even after I explicitely told her to either only email me or use my work extension and leave a message.

I had scheduled a test drive and requested a TL with 6spd and nav but they told me the only 6spd they had didn't have nav. I also requested the test drive be at least between 30 to 60 minutes so both my wife and I could take our time and feel it all out. I was told that 10 minutes was all they allowed?

My wedding anniversary is on the date I had scheduled the drive. I felt after asking them for the specific car I was interested in and more time that since they couldn't accomodate me, they dodn't deserve me spending my and my wifes time and or potentially any money there.

I should've known. I've dealt with this dealership before and didn't have such a good expereince with them in the past.

I live in NY but contacted a dealer in Connecticut that I had previously bought 2 Acuras from and had extremely good experiences with. I expect they will come through for me in the end but I had hoped I would have had a better experience locally. Ohh well. There are still 2 more dealers locally that I can work on before I actually have to go to CT for a deal.

Good luck! You won't get a better deal from Gillman Acura. We were very unhappy with Gillman and in the end puchased our car from Sterling McCall last week. I was very pleased with Sterling and Gillman were very RUDE.. . they were so bad that we gave them a bad report. I will never buy a car from them!

Definately keep trying. Also try other sales people and different shifts. Its all a big game and they play it every day. Almost the same thing happened to me, got quoted MSRP on a car, a day later someone else from the same dealer contacted me and was ready to deal -2000 from that.
