EL-42 Trade In Value?
EL-42 Trade In Value?
Hi All,
Going to replace the EL-42's like just about everyone here. Nothing fancy, just going to get better all-seasons. gForce KDW's or P Zero Nero's. I've had Michelin Pilot A/S and they *are* great all seasons but they're not *that* much greater than P Zero Nero's for the price premium.
Anyway, I can get P Zero Nero's (245/45R17) for about $140/tire. They're offering me $80/EL-42.
Is that a fair trade-in price for the El-42's? Tires have about 500 miles on them. Should I ask for more or count myself lucky and get the P Zero's for $240 total and be done with it?
As always, any advice is appreciated.

That's very generous of them! I couldn't get any shops to give me a PENNY for my EL42's with only a couple hundred miles on them. They simply don't do it around here (at least not the three shops I talked to).
Absolutely take it. Best I was able to do was $100/tire credit at the dealer as a pre-delivery swap and had to pay a little on the high side for the Micheline Pilot A/S replacement. My local tire dealer that I have been working with for 20+ years could have saved me $30/tire on the Pilots but could offer no trade in on the EL42's.

Thanks to all! Based on your replies, I'll go ahead and take the trade-in offer and go with P Zero Nero's.
Wildcat: Zero Nero's are made by Pirelli. Very good all season tire, low road noise, decent winter performance. Almost as popular as the Michelin Pilot A/S that cost about $250/tire most places.
Thanks again all for your help!

I got $50 per for EL42s with about 20 miles on them. Then my dealer sent me a goodwill check (and a personal note from the owner) for all but $200 of my Pilot A/S purchase. I think $50 per out of pocket is very reasonable to upgrade from a crappy tire to an excellent tire; right in line with the cost of the HPT option.
