Arrow DVD/Satellite based Navi System Question

I understand that the ELS audio system that plays DVD-A discs does not play movies if inserted into the slot in the console/dash.

However, does anyone know if it is possible to remove the 48-state navigation database DVD from the DVD player, which is located in the trunk I believe, to play movie DVDs?

Just curious...

Nope. The nav system only has a DVD-ROM drive; it lacks the necessary hardware to decompress MPEG-2 video.

Thanks for the info...it's unfortunate, but nothing that an aftermarket system can't fix for those so inclined perhaps.

Jalopy,
search DVD posts here. There is a link to a site that has a universal kit to play DVD movies. Although the audio is delivered via an FM frequency, so no surround sound yet....

It sucks that the new TL has 2 DVD-Roms and we can't use either one for movies. Just like fuque said, no hardware to decompress MPEG. I'm sure there will be some mod to get an AV input for the 8" LCD in the future, just like there was one for the previous version.
