Duplicolor Illuminite

Anyone ever try Duplicolor Illuminite? Wondering if that would look good if you put it on the Acura logo on the front bumper. Is that a good look or just cheesy?

I think I'm gonna "color" in my logo, and just happened to come by this product while on the duplicolor site.

Thoughts?

that's pretty cool! If they had it in a different color, like white for example, it would be awesome. However it'll look pretty cheesy on the bumper if it was neon blue.

experiment with it a little on a junk piece of plastic for a little. I'd like to see how bright this stuff is at night.

I think I may give this a shot, and using your advice 6spdtl-s -- I wonder if Pep Boys carries this along with the rest of the Duplicolor stuff they have.

if they dont have it in-store I know they can order it for you. Make sure you properly prepare the surface and use adhesion promoter too (unless it specifically says not to).

yep -- i did watch that. he doesnt mention anything bout adhesion promoter, so you think it is good to apply just directly on(after cleaning surface)?

yep, just clean thoroughly and apply several coats of clear since it will see lots of debris in that location.

6spd (or anyone else),

Do you think the pin striping kit will contain enough to do the logo, even though im obviously not doing pin striping. The kit contains:

White Primer 1/2 oz. with brush
Illuminite Glow-in-the-Dark Paint 1/2 oz. with brush
Clear Coat Paint 1/2 oz. with brush
Pinstripe Tape
Application Directions

or is it better to go with the can? (link) ...is the clear coat necessary? in the DIY on this forum, the guy doesn't use a clear coat. just wanna do it right.

Went to Auto Zone and Pep Boys today, and neither carried this specific duplicolor product, so gonna have to order it online.

Not sure if having "ACURA" in white during the daytime is going to be a good look on a lot of colors.

Post day and night pics when you're done.

I think the dome decals will look much better than a hand brushed application. Cant you get the dome decals in any color you want?

FYI, This what duplicolor said as their recommendation for what I'm doing:

Mario,

Thank you for your inquiry with Dupli-Color.

You can use either for this application, however, a primer is not necessary
for this product. You may want to use the aerosol for this project though
as you will get more even and uniform coverage when applying to large
areas.

If you have any additional questions, please ask.

Thank you,
Jared

Ok, what about if I put this stuff on my type-s gauge bezel? Like, paint the silver rings with this stuff. That could potentially look very cool....

The 5th coat is drying right now. I will say you are definitely sacrificing the look during the day for hopefully good results during the night. I's not too bad looking, but idk -- you guys will see for yourselves shortly.

If someone was pinstriping, it would be weird looking in the day, I would think at least.

Today has been rather cloudy (tmw should be better), so may not be able to get full results, but we'll see

And one can is the perfect amount for the job.

So, I'm finished, and I'll tell ya, it doesn't look too bad in the daytime...at least on SSM ...maybe worse on others...it went well, except for the last 'A', you can see not the whole A is covered...in pulling the contact paper off some of it came wth it. I tried to fix it as best as possible, but i think i will just leave it. Also -- whats the best way to clean off the residue on my car from the contact paper?

I guess the squirrell didnt like it too much

I also didn't apply a clearcoat (don't have any atm) -- is it too late to do that? What is the benefit of doing it? And if I do, where should I get the clearcoat from?

honestly, looks like shit due to the sloppiness. Try cleaning up the work a bit and/or starting over and be very careful. Applying the clear coat will give it a nice gloss look like the rest of the bumper as well as protect it from chipping.

Thanks for the honest comments - I do appreciate it.

By cleaning it up, what would you suggest on how to do so? If I were to do it over, what would be the best way to have a clean slate to start with?

Just carefully sand away what you have there with high grit sand paper. Then do it again. This time, use a razor blade to perforate or create slices in the tape before you tug on it, so that it won't take the paint off.

If that doesn't work, then carbon fiber inserts will cover the mess up and still look good.

But since you already have the stuff on there now, please post some night shots of it so we can get an idea of what it looks like and the benefits of doing the mod.

IDEA: buy the insert letters for the 'ACURA' and paint those. Then stick them on and it should look MUCH cleaner.
