DIY Paint Calipers Duplicolor Kit **HOW TO w/ PICTURES**

I painted my front calipers with the Duplicolor Caliper Paint Kit. The kit comes with all of the material you need. It was about 20 bucks at AutoZone. I did not tape everything off because I was changing my pads and rotors so i didnt care if i got paint on them. Regardless do a good job taping off and cleaning. Also make sure you buy a good wire brush and an old toothbrush to scrub off all the brake dust on the calipers.

Kit:

Step 1: Take off the wheel and expose the dirty Caliper

Step 2: Spray Brake Caliper Cleaner onto Caliper and Generously SCRUB AND SCRUB to get as much of the brake dust and contaminents off the Caliper.

Step 3: Mix Paint and Slowly apply thin coats to the Caliper. I Put three coats of paint on each caliper. You will have tons of paint so use it. I waited 15 minutes between each coat and waited an hour for the paint to completely dry after the last coat.

Final: After changing pads and rotors

Same stuff I used, except I used silver. Matches the SSM paint almost perfectly

I dont see any caliper grease in the before or after pics!
But it looks good
A wire wheel on a drill really cleans the calipers for painting

Nice job. If you were taking off the calipers to change your brake rotors and pads, wouldn't the painting results turned out even better painting the calipers when they are off the car.

I reckon the only thing you are saving is having to bleed the brakes.

the alternative to the kit is to use brake cleaner spray liberally to clean the brake area, mask and spray several coats with caliper paint.

Its easy to paint the calipers when still on the car
Remove them totally, and be faced with brake fluid ruining you new paint job
Use a brush not spray paint!!!!

Nice! What Rotors?

Nice I did mine spray paint and I took off the caliper holder but left the caliper connected and just did a crazy mask job. That worked great. What kind of rotors are those???

Or instead of using the weak included caliper paint you can get the Duplicolor Engine Enamel and never need to re-paint it again...

When I first painted my calipers with the Caliper paint it flaked after just months the same happend after that and again a total of 3 times with the "Caliper Paint" obviously Im hard on the brakes kind of guy, More with my EBC setup. The last try with the OEM caliper I used Engine Enamel and it lasted until I swapped to the Legend Calipers.

The Legend Calipers were painted before installing with Engine Enamel and so far the coat has survived the same abuse with no flaking so far.

Search for Duplicolor Glossy Engine Enamel.
