Drove a VW GTI today....
.... and had smile up to my ears. It was a 6speed manual and i was so ipressed by the car despite its smaller engine and power, yet it felt stronger and pulled harder then my car. It was much peppier and its one of those car you just wanna drive around for no reason. I mean i would miss the luxury aspect of the TL but this car beats it totally when it comes to the fun factor and for someone who actually likes driving. Im not looking to take a dip in my pocket so this would be something i might consider trading in for.
My car 2005 TL, used to have a 04 manual TL aswell, regreted trading it in but back to the topic, this one that i have is just plainly sluggish and feels heavy all the time and im sure every TL its not like that but mine is and i cant figure out what the problem is. Tried it all its just has mood swings but even on its good days i think that the low end sucks. Im kinda tired of just getting there where i need to go, i also wanna have fun doing it.
I know its going backwards but the car is just so much fun drive i so surprised by it.
whats your guys thoughts on it.
if somenone can fix my sluggish performance ill pay whatever it costs but i dont think its gonna happen.

Well what have you done to try and fix it? Have you looked into the Ultimate cooling mod?

Ive tried the ultimate cooling mod, i changed the coolant and the thermostat, app sensor, Intake temperature sensor. red line transmission fluid. seafomed it. Have couple of bolt-ons and still slow. I just have a very weak low-end problem. The GTI with 3 guys in it with much less torque glues you to the seat really... I cant even spin my tires of the line, not that I would wanna do that is just the fact that the car cant and it has so much power on paper i cant seem to get over it.

My gf has a 08 GTI and I agree its a fun car to drive it feels faster then it really is but thats not a bad thing. On the other side of the coin be prepared for high maintenance cost, heavy oil consumption and numerous trips to the dealer for the check engine light on. Her car has been in for it 6 times in 2.5 years its a bit of a joke. If you do decide to go with the GTI check out the dsg its faster then the manual and better on fuel plus has launch control.

Those are fun cars, I've driven one before. I'd just get very worried about reliability, though rumor has it VW has been doing better. Who knows. Going from a Honda to a VW would be quite different.

i do realize that, but i just want something in a manual, mainly for the fan factor of it. Im gonna have to test drive some other cars, i just cant deal with this problem alone as it makes me not enjoy the car at all. This is a constant problem, at least if i knew what to fix i would.

i was always under the impression that VW = the German version of Honda in terms of being reliable... but then they own Audi and i typically hear maintenance and reliability issues about audis...

Just a heads up, they are all maintence and constant problems, The person that sold me my tl stated he had a vr6 and a gti and he said they both constantly had problems, such as all rotors, and callipers seizing and also misc sensors constantly going up and a bunch of little stuff that adds up.

But how much does it cost to fix something where u dont even know what to fix but there is clearly a problem that exists...
The next thing im thinking is that it might be a EGR problem... But most likely it wont fix anything. One acura tech told me that im chasing a ghost...

If you plan to buy a VW, I would do some research first. Be aware of any recurring problems so you can perform preventative maintenance or regular check-ups to ensure you're not caught off-guard.
The MK6 has a more reliable engine, by the way. If you're getting the older FSI engine, definitely make sure you do your homework. So far my engine hasn't given me problems (knock on wood) but I've only had my car for 17k miles.

If your looking for something fun to drive, look into a Subaru WRX. 25k OTD, same as GTI and you get way more car for the money. It's a drivers car. I heard the 09-10 is faster than the STI, someone correct me if im wrong.
