Driving for a few seconds in Second gear at no more than 40 mph

I was unknowingly (due to loud music) driving in second gear for a few seconds before i realized that something was wrong. I felt the "heaviness" and my idiotic initial reaction was i needed to press the gas to change gears!!! Realizing that i had accidentally switched from auto to gear while grabbing something from the passenger seat i rectified the situation and switched back to auto. Now, I doubt that I redlined but it is a possibility that i did when i hit the gas for a split second before bring the car to a halt at a four way stop. You don't think i caused any damage? I am worried!!!

You went from sport shift to Auto? Or did you go from Neutral to auto?

You should be ok, your car essentially shifted from 2nd to 3rd / 4th automatically.

If you hit the limiter, it's not the end of the world .. that's why they call it a limiter .

I was driving in auto at a low speed because i was approaching a four way stop. I accidentally went from auto to manual and the car shifted itself from 1 to 2, then after being in gear 2 for a few seconds, i pressed a bit on the gas pedal. That is when i realized what i had done.

+1 you can hit the limiter all day on an auto because you can't go over the redline like on a manual...I wouldn't try that but its OK if you do it on accident for a split second.

So basically the limiter would cause my engine to cut in and out until i am out of the red zone.... preventing damage to my engine.

Yeah, the first time I let my girlfriend drive my car she switched it to automanual and drove it in second the whole way home (2-3 miles) that was about a year and a half ago, and its been fine.

its a good idea to go test out some of the features of the TL in a safe place

auto trans cars: The rev limiter will cause the ignition and or fuel pump to cut out and cause a very noticable stuttering feeling to the car--a WTF is wrong kind of feeling!
it does that until you upshift or let off the gas pedal

Wont hurt anything.,its set to go off lower than actual redline, even that has a small margin for safety
You can switch from auto to SS mode without fear- all it does is show the current gear the car is in when you engage SS
SS allows you to send a request to the computer to shift the car
It decides to do it or not
on downshifts if the combination of factors says it will cause an overrev- the gear selected in SS will flash on the dash-refuse to downshift, then show the gear you are in.
When you change things by slowing down or reducing rpm, then it will allow the downshift
