i found the DIY but applies to 2G TL. I'm sure there is one for 3Gs as well.
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/diy-door-handle-leds-613711/

But ya...I don't wanna do this on my own either

Looks like it might be do-able on 3g TL's a lot easier by using some of V-LED's strip lights on the back of the handles.

you wouldn't get the correct lumination with this method ...

Plus the door light only light up when the door is opened so it defiets the purpose... Of these LEDs on the handle... Then what do you do about the rear doors...

The way mine operate is by the courtesy light circuit... And only the courtesy light circuit... You hit the alarm to unlock the car and the lights turn on etc... There's a thread on how to tap into that circuit...

Good luck ... I've had this mid on my car for years... if I find the time... I will create a DIY on it...

Just one question: is the led in the little handle cover (like the one used to shave the keyhole) or is it fired out of the larger cover?

I doubt they'll run all the time like the sidemarkers. Just when locking and unlocking the doors.

There was a lot of testing to get the LED in the correct position to fire into the circle area and have an even fill...

New handles where purchased and the LEDs were fabricated INSIDE the handles (not the cover), since the handle are hallow. If you guys look at your handles, HOW THE HELL WILL YOU GET LIGHT in the circle area from the "key hole cover"???

Yes, the handles light up when the car is unlocked with the keyfob and turn off when the car is started or your courtesy light timer runs out.... but they do NOT turn on when you manually turn on your dome lights...

That looks sick, that's the way it should be done with the "door handle lights" connected to the courtesy light. Your car is very nicely done. I believe the door handle on the 1 gen TSX is the same and so this mod should work as the door handles are similar.

One question though how do you connect the LED and feed the wire through the hollow door handles ? (I guess I'll have to try to take the door handles off to figure that out).

DIY process would be great if you have to the time.

Only one LED... after trying different types and countless failures... I found one that works well and it's been a whole year without a hickup... I purchased the prewired superflux from Oznium.com link as follows:

Thank you everyone... we had to custom fabricate the LED inside the handle and run the wires out of the handle such that it doesn't interfere with the handle usage...

Holy F, rodney, you're tripping me out. I was looking at these the night before. The way they're designed, all you have to do is Dremel a hole the size of the housing into the handle, then thread the wires which I saw they made a foot long, apply some sealent to the housing, and slide it in. I was thinking the best place to mount it is where the handle pivots. There's less hand traffic there when opening the doors.

It's a stupid mod (looks gay and serves no practical purpose), and besides it's illegal in Ontario.

In Ontario it is illegal to have blue lights on your car (except for emergency vehicles and plows, tow trucks, etc).

In Texas, it's also illegal to mount James Bond-style machine guns underneath the hood.

But since I have a taste for shooting my way through rush-hour traffic, as well as nice LED lights in my door handles, I'll be careful only to use my machine guns and handle lights when cops aren't watching....

On the serious side- Since the lights aren't on while driving, the police should not care too much. Or notice for that matter.

I thought they were on while driving. If not then they're probably not illegal.

The BMW 7 series has the same exact lights on it (since 2002) and they light up when you unlock the car so you can see the door handles at night. As soon as you turn on the car they shut off. In this case it would legal since you are not imitating an emergency response vehicle. They are purely to see the door-handle at night, and as well to see the floor so you don't step in something you don't want to.
