Door Handle LED mod

I just noticed that the new 06 BMW 3 series have this cool LED on each Door Handle when you disarm or arm the factory alarm. It is similar to the new IS or the GS rear license plate LED. I was wondering could that be done onto our TL on all the door handles? I took some pic but haven't up load it yet. But I will post some pic tonight if I have the chance.

you're afraid of someone stealing the $.50 LED out of your doorhandle?

it's very simple to do

you run it to the interior lights which go on and off with the alarm(armed and de armed) all you need to do is get the right resistor, and they'll last for a long time, i personally think it's pointless, but can be done very easily

I can't picture what this mod is describing. However, on the previous-generation 7 series, there are lights under the door handles that come on when the doors are unlocked to provide light all around the car. When you unlock the door, the ground all around the car is illuminated because the door handles act like light sconces. Nice touch.

I think somebody did this mod on the TXS forum, maybe you should try searching there and asking the guy a f ew ?'s. From the pics, he put in blue LED's and it looked pretty good.

Well I was thinking of getting the actual LED from the dealer either BMW or Lexus. I wasn't thinking of using those inexpensive type of LED. The one from the BMW or Lexus is bright white and it is like a flat piece. I'm sure you can fit on to it but it just the question of wiring those things.

The BMW one is actually not an LED, but an incandesent light inside the door. They then light pipe (solid acrylic tube that bends the light to the desired position) it to the door handle to provide the light to the ground.

To get as much light as BMW does, you would need around 4 or more LEDs per door handle.

Not sure what Lexus uses.

That is very interesting. I wonder how much would the deal cost if I get one and test time out......probably cost me an arm and a leg for that........

Not sure what Lexus uses.

I think Lexus just has the puddle lights under the side view mirrors. The nice thing is that, with the Smart Key they use, the lights automatically come on as you approach the car.
