Door handle cover fell off, where to get replacement

Not the actual door handle but the little cover behind the door handle. Where can I get a white one? What's it called and what part should I search?

Thanks

hopefully avoiding the dealership, I can imagine them charging an arm and leg for a 10 cent piece.

The door handle cap is @ $16 (with a metal base piece you won't need) at the dealer; the caps are each color matched to a paint code.
Each cap is probably cheaper if you pry one off a TL of the same color at a junk yard. You won't find them at the local auto parts stores.

See https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/anyone-ever-have-piece-fall-off-their-car-868644/ and a couple dozen other threads for the same issue, or the hidden keyhole mod, Garage subject # E-022, at https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/anyone-consider-mod-garage-e-022-a-552284/.

So not only you want it for $0.10 but you also want it to be painted in the color of your choice (white). For that price it will prob be made in China. I would recomend you the one thats made in Japan, i know its a few extra $0.10 but the quality is better.

I had this exact same thing happen to me. I ordered it from the dealer, but finding the correct one through any online store that sells OEM parts is just the same and it's not hard to match your paint color (each color has a different part number).

If you have an 04, they will tell you that you need to install it properly by replacing the metal bracket that holds it in (otherwise they tell you it will fall off again in no time). When I asked them what that entailed, they told me they would have to take the entire door apart- hundreds of dollars alone just in labor.

Screw that!

So I just took it home, clipped it in, and more than a year later, tons of car washes, 30,000 miles, road trips and brutal winters and it still hasn't come off. Don't let them rip you off, the part is cheap enough that taking your door apart to mount the new bracket isn't worth it IMO.

If you need me to look up the part number, let me know your year and exterior color and I can find it for you in a jiffy.

I obviously don't expect to buy it for 10 cents but I think Acura (as much as I like them) charging that kind of markup for a tiny piece of plastic is a little insulting.

DuoDSG thank you very much for your assistance. It was bought in late 2004 I think it' actually is a 2004 White Diamond Pearl, passenger side door handle cover..

after some research does 72644-SEP-A01ZD sound like the right part?

Yeah, I couldn't believe it either. I happened to be in Salt Lake City (where the closest Acura dealer is at, I live almost two hours away) and stopped in to get the part. When they told me the price, I turned right around and walked out.

And yes, 72184-SEP-A01ZD is the right part number (for the front driver side door). I found it for $10, hopefully you found it at that price or less (if you want the link for the site in case you didn't, let me know and I can PM it to you).

The following apply for a 2006 NBP TL:

For the driver's side door, it's 72184-SEP-A01ZB. Front passenger side door, 72644-SEP-A01ZD. For the passenger side rear door, it's 72644-SEP-A01ZB. Driver's side rear door is 72684-SEP-A01ZD.

PLEASE NOTE FOR THOSE LOOKING AT PART NUMBERS FOR THIS: every single door cap has a different part number! One of these will not fit the others even though it looks similar.

it has happened so much there is a tsb out for it. So if you're lucky the dealer might give you the part. I'd just pay the $16 than have them try to take my car door apart.

This has happend to me twice i just went straigh to the dealer and asked for the part cost me about $20 on both occasions and you dont need a new clip thats bull, the guy just put it on for me. Either you need the cap or the metal piece that is inside the cap as well as the cap, both were the same price for me!

It sounds like they pulled a fast one on you...when you buy it, it comes with both pieces. If you had to pay separately for either just the cover or just the mounting bracket, you were ripped off.
