Doing my timing belt at Hamilton Honda.
Hey everyone just wanted to share that this Friday im
Going down to Hamilton Honda and get my timing belt done. I'm
Currently at 92,000 miles, does it matter that I'm
Getting it done earlier than recommended? And when I hit 105k and the message pops up do I have to take it to Acura to erase it or can I do it myself? For those who didn't know they still have the timing belt special till march 30th I believe. For $389 you get your timing belt ,water pump ,drive belt , and coolant. And for $75 more they'll replace your tensioners. I asked the guy if I would wanna do the idler pulley/roller and tensioner pulley/roller how
Much more would it be and he said that it won't be needed that that rarely goes out. Should I listen and save myself the money. Or should I go ahead and get those replaced. Oh and I believe there's 3 seals that must be replaced. But idk if they include this. Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks.

ok that is a steal for the deal, I would just ago ahead and replace everything you mention above because everything you know is new. You can erase the maint message yourself, it just there to remind you that vehicle service need to be done.

i would do the idler, it can only help and does not hurt..unless you're willing to let a pulley be spun for another 100k. it's a small price to pay since you're already getting everything at a high discount. There wont be a chance with the pulley seizing and tearing your new TB apart.

Damn I called my local Acura dealer they want $1227 for just timing belt and spark plugs and that's supposedly after a 10% discount lol!
What is a fair price? I'm at 101,---k miles

Call your local Honda dealer and see if they're willing to work on the TL engine- you might be able to save some $$$ that way.

Well I don't think the spark plugs are included in the Hamilton deal. Those are like $350-$400 I think I was quoted. I just changed them out myself for $50 and two hours.

The fronts are a breeze. The back ones are tight. There is a 2G thread that has some good pictures and it's the same process.

Not to thread jack, but I am in a similar situation as well (haven't hit 105k, but figured it's a good deal and since I should be able to have time to make the drive I might as well), but have an appointment for next Fri. Acura dealers around the Dc/MD/VA area all quoted at least $1100 while Honda dealers quoted around $850. I bought the spark plugs from Advanced Auto Parts since they had a 30% off coupon last Fri. Good luck on your visit and hope all goes well! Keep us posted!

I'll keep you guys posted, and I totally forgot about the spark plugs!! Thanks for reminding me I'm going to advance auto part after work to pick them up. Do you think they'll replace them for me Friday? Of coarse they're going to charge but I mean since its not oem will they still replace them?

This deal has been going on for a few years now-they seem to extend the date.

Is the Simi Valley area known to have people financially well off? That could explain the prices being quoted.
Hamilton Honda quoted me somewhere between $200-$300 for a valve adjustment and 1 hour's labor to do the plugs which can be bought at AutoZone for about $10 a piece.

oh just for clarification of my first post, there are TWO idlers.
one for the acc belt, one for the TB belt. get the TB belt one replaced. Get all the pulleys handling the TB replaced (except the crankshaft and cams obv), unless you want to put another 100k miles on those pulleys for a total of 200k. If they start to go bad and make noise you'll have to take everything apart again, or they seize and tear up the belt.
The acc tensioner and idler can be DIY easily. not the TB.
