Does the 'moleskin' fix for tinted windows actually work?

I am having the damn infamous tinted windows scratching!
I have done many searches and haven't really found an answer to this: Is the 'moleskin' really a permanent solution? Any moleskiners please chime in... especially if you had scratches before the moleskin install.
Thanks!

Had to take the car back to have the dealership replace the scratched tint (3 windows). The tint company installed the moleskin along with the new tint.

No problems anymore!

Don't know if it'll be a 'permanent' solution - some commenters are afraid that the moleskin will eventually come off. That's a possibility I suppose. The tint shop cleaned the wipers with alcohol and heated 'em up with a heat gun before applying the moleskin. That should give a little assurance that it'll stay put. It never got over 100 here this summer - but they've stayed put nonetheless.

BTW - I called ACS and lodged a formal 'complaint' about the problem. Hopefully enough folks will do the same and it might get Honda to make a change in the design. Maybe it won't be an issue when I trade her in to get the '06 AWD version.

TLSpeed,

Did you get your car tinted at the dealership (Acura) or is dealerhship = tint shop?

Also, if your car was tinted at the tint shop is Acura covering the warranty?

Thanks

Michael

The moleskin actually works. I can't remember anyone reporting scratches after moleskin installed.

Sorry for the mis-understanding. Acura (the dealership) didn't tint the windows. This was a dealer-installed option i.e., it was already installed when we purchased the car. Therefore, I took it back to the dealership who had to take it back to the tint shop that they use.

The dealership claimed nobody else had complained. I took copies of the moleskin threads to make sure the issue was crystal clear. I didn't want to keep taking the car back everytime the tint scratched. They (the tint shop) told me that they'd start doing all the TLs like this - and were going to charge the dealership accordingly. Obviously the tint shop didn't want to keep incurring the cost of materials/labor to do the replacement(s). I'm sure they wanted to keep the Acura folks happy - they give them a lot of business.

The only problem I foresee is if the tint scratches in the future. Will the Acura dealership consider this warranty work? Probably not. I never received any documentation on the tint installation - an invoice or written warranty. My fingers are crossed. Your results may vary / buyer beware.

Hi!

I am the one who sells the Mole Skin Kit.

I have not had anyone complain about the mole skin coming off.
I would send them a free strip if it does however.

My car has had the mole skin on for over 6 months now with no problems.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

BTW -
I called Acura at (800) 382-2238 and logged a formal complaint... but they didn't care... She said OK, it's aftermarket now go talk to the Tint Shop about it... it's not our problem.
