Does this happen with 3G TL's?

So a coworker was driving me home yesterday in his 2G TL when we heard a pop sound. Kind of like something hit metal. A few seconds later I noticed that it sounded like he had an exhaust leak (and a very big one at that).

We rolled down the window and there it was. Sounded like a lawn mower.

Car went into limp and started idling really rough. Engine light went on - started flashing... Car felt like it was missing a few cylinders.

We pulled over at the next gas station and popped open the hood. Right away I noticed one of the spark coils were out. Looked closer and realized it snapped in half and parts of it were on the floor of the plastic covers.

Took a light and looked into the spark plug hole and realized there was no spark plug there. That is when we realized the freaking spark plug shot out....

I went home and did some research and found this

So I stood outside staring at my 3G TL and now I'm wondering if this is also a problem for our cars? Anyone ever heard about it? I'm uber paranoid now.

Links didn't open but yes, I have seen a few threads related to the spark plugs blowing out. Scary stuff.

our heads are aluminum.
cylinder #5 likes to eject on the J-series

its a good idea to check the plugs once in a while to make sure they are tight

I dont think I would worry about it too much man, its pretty uncommon here on the 3G forums, and its super easy to check your plugs every now and then. I have had a few 07/08 TL's and no issues whatsoever with any of them. Great cars!

^its more common than you think, james!

Odyssey's have this problem as well.
any J-series engine is prone to this, as we have aluminum heads

Eh, spark plugs can eject on pretty much any vehicle if they're not tightened sufficiently or you just have bad luck I've had two vehicles over the years eject a plug. The first was my dad's old '88 Caprice Classic. Luckily it didn't do too much damage. And since it was a Chevy small block 305, I still got home just fine with the other 7 cylinders functional. The other one was my wife's beater '92 Toyota Previa. That stupid van's engine is like, halfway into the passenger compartment. It was hell getting to the plug and it caused all sorts of damage. It was the straw that broke the camels back. We ended up donating it to the Kindey Foundation and getting her a little Nissan Altima.

Either way, it's probably not a bad idea to check plugs every now and then on the TL. Ripping apart a coil pack is expensive.

It happend to me. I have an 08. Happend on cyl #2. The plug dident eject but it backed out enough to damage the threads. I still don't think its common on 3Gs. But it can happen. Dosent hurt to check your plugs from time to tine.

My MPG hasn't been the best lately, that is true.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here but I believe the first scheduled spark plug change is due with the 105k service. And I just hit 95k... I know I'm past the 7 year time mark though.

AFAIK, I'm also still on the original coolant. Lol

I think that is correct.

And coolant is like, 100k miles? And then changed every 60k after that. Correct me if I'm wrong.
