Does the AC have to been on when i turn on the fans?

when i turn the fan on i notice that the ac is on and that i would have to turn it off. for example when i turn on the heat by press the fan up button the on is on until i turn it off, does it have to be this way all the time?

I'm not sure I understand your problem. Could you rephrase your question?

I think if you press the fan button and you have the temperature on 75 while it is like 60 outside I dont think the A/C would be ON...but if it is like 85 outside then it would be on...

but as caball says...if you want it on or off just press the button...

On the way home tonight, outside temp was 3C on my display and AC was cycling on and off. So annoying. Yes you better hit "A/C" button unless you get windows fogged up

so let me see if i got it...if you just turn the fan on, the AC will cycle on and off to maintain the set temp? and if you wanted it to stay completely on or off you would then have to hit the AC button?

The compressore dehumidifies the air to keep the cabin comfortable and the windows clear.

yes. It just goes on and off with no reason. It is 3C outside raining right now and I set my temp at 24C. Car was cycling A/C all the way home. No, it's not moisture detection or anything like that.

Again, it cycles it on to dehumidify the air. It doesn't have to detect anything. It's just more comfortable that way.

yeah i find the compressor sufficiently comfortable most of the time...everytime i start my car i just turn the fan up, and later if its not cool enough i might turn the temp down, i guess from now on at that point i should hit the AC to on instead?

Same with the heat on if it's cold outside.... , just remember that once you use the AC and decide to shut it off, the windows will fog faster than when two people are having sex in the back seats....

This is not rocket science, and the TL is like most other cars,
unless you turn the ac off, the system will run the compressor
to maintain around a 35F evap core temp, regardless if its 40f out, or
90f outside the car.

I think the TL uses pressure to control the evap temp, like most
other cars, in ac systems, pressure equates to temp, so the compressor
shuts off at say 30 psi low side, and will come back on at someplace
around 50 psi.

Now if its 40F out, the compressor should not run much.
If the humidity is low and its cool outside, there is no real reason to have the ac on.
On my car, turning the ac off still allows the system to work in the auto mode.
Changing the fan speed settings or any other setting takes it out of auto,
although one side can be in auto while the other side is in manual.

As in other cars, going to recirculate activates the ac, to remove the humidity
that would build up inside the car. So does going to defrost.

Under some conditions, running the ac will help in removing some dust and
pollen from the air, as the air passes through a wet evap core, the dirt sticks
to the water and goes out the drains.

In auto mode, as in other cars with auto climate control, the computer
makes choices for you, heat to feet when cold out, cool air
out the dash vents when its hot out, fan speeds change to get the car to temp
and keep it there, side and defrost vents may operate when the car is
first started and it cold out, the system goes into recirculate if the outside air
temp is high and the system can not get it cool enough, etc.

Normaly, if you want it cooler or warmer, its best to change the temp, not the fan
controls, as the system will try to keep the car at the set temp, and changing the fan settings will just force the system to change the air temp out the vents
to keep it at the set temp.
So say its cold out and you have the system set for 72F and you are cold.
If you trn the fan up, the air out the vents may get cooler to keep the car at
72, you can have low air flow with warmer air, or high air flow with
cooler air to maintain 72F.
Turning the temp up will increase the fan speed and increase the air temp out the vents.

My system generaly seems to work well, it maintains the lowest air flow
to keep the car warm or cool, and does seem to maintain the temp.

I am not sure how much difference there is between sides, sometimes
I am hot, and in the sun, and have 68 selected, and the wife (always cold)
has her side at 76....its like having one side of the same room 20 degrees
diffierent....I dont think that works very well....

My old passat had drift, as you drove, it would gradualy get cooler and cooler,
untill after a 2 hour drive, the control was set to 80f and it was cool in the car.
It also had no manual mode, and would do things on it own like go into
recirculate if it was hot out, with no way to overide it.
