my 04 TL gets about 20-22 ![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
i heard some other AZ members got like 25+, and i know it all depends on the area you live and your driving style
i'm just wondering does this kinda fuel system cleaner work?like Redline and Techron, and Seafoam?
Moreover, i just got this 2004 TL 2 days ago, i would love to do some other cleaning and maintenance, but no idea where to start with, any suggestion ??

You just got it TWO days. Drive more before you assume its bad. ![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Fuel System Cleaners don't really do anything. Waste of money-- spend the money on buying gas with additives aka Shell and/or Chevron.
25+ on HIGHWAY. This doesn't mean we go 85+ either. A stead 60-80 will net you 28-32MPG.

LA traffic is really bad around 3pm-6pm. Hate it when I need to drive to the 101 freeway to get home when I visit over the weekends to Ventura County.
OP you should really consider buying Shell gas, and if not than replace spark plugs if needed, I know I need to do them, but since I do a lot more highway driving get 27+ mpg. And I commute in San Diego, CA which is all hills and steep inclines.

I get 19 to 21 city
And about 29 or 30 highway...
Everyday commute which is basically 50/50, it's about 23 mpg/avg, and that is driving miss daisy...
I can redline every gear and hit 130 mph on the same commute in my rsx and avg 28 mpg.. If I drive it the same way i drive the TL I get like 36 to 38 mpg, no kidding.. And with BP gas enriched with nitrogen, I get 60 more miles out of a tank than regular gas.. I've tested it over 20 times to make sure I wasn't crazy

Nah dont use additives. As long as you use a quality premium fuel your fuel system will be fine. I personally use Shell 93 here around Chicago. My TL Type S does phenominal on fuel. I just filled up yesterday and calculated 26.4mpg without ever touching a highway!!! So typical driving for me I have seen between 24-26mpg in far suburban driving and I would assume maybe 32ish highway.
MY TL-S does amazing on fuel, but its a 6spd manual and they do significantly better on fuel than the automatics. When I had my automatic Type S I think its averaged 21mpg with the exact same driving conditions and fuel as my current 6mt Type S which consistantly does 24-26 all year round regardless of driving style. Im very impressed!!

I like Lucas fuel additive and use it from time to time, usually when I'm at Walmart or Advance Auto and can't remember the last time I used it I'll grab a bottle.
I drive about 90% highway and have been averaging just over 31 mpg for the past 13K miles. I drive VERY conservatively and cruise around ~61. Very rarely are my shifts past 2.5K rpm.

When i worked in San Diego i was averaging high 20s if not 30. I commuted from Oceanside to downtown SD almost daily, and my job at the time would also require a lot of highway driving around san diego as well.

I have been using FP Plus and LC20 for years. These are made by a company called Lubecontrol. The FP Plus is an additive for fuel and the LC20 is for your oil. Here is an explanation of their products according to their website:
FP Plus: Our Fuel Power line of additives increase combustion efficiency, lubricate fuel pumps and injectors, clean the fuel system, and potentially increase mileage. The products scavenge water and moisture from the fuel system so the resulting mix can be burned in the combustion chamber./ FP also acts as a fuel stabilizer by dissolving carbon deposits and lowering the fuel mixture freezing points in both gas and diesel fuels.
LC20: LC20 will literally melt (soften and emulsify) carbonaceous deposits into colloidal graphite – an effective lubricant.
I highly recommend taking a look into their products...good stuff. I also like their customer service. They will provide you with a discount when returning to purchase again.

05 TL 6MT
Chevron 91 only
No additives or Seafoam or anything
67k miles
Kumho Ecsta SPT UHP-summer tires 235/45/17 over-inflated by 3psi.
Full tank averages:
- Las Vegas 95% freeway = 30-31mpg
- Reno 70% freeway = 28-29mpg (more hills and I live further from the freeway)
I have managed a two-way average of 31mpg through the city streets of Las Vegas once (30 mile trip). People out there don't like it when you hypermile though. Coasting down toward a red light from a half-mile away makes them angry...![Wink](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
In an 08 TSX 5AT loaner I managed 47mpg two-way average over 45 miles on city streets. I liked that that car showed "instant" mpgs. It really makes a big difference seeing exactly how your right foot is effecting mpgs.
BTW: I always calculated my own mpgs from tank fills and the MID is ALWAYS dead on. One time I calculated 30.50, and the MID read 31. This is still correct because a .5 will round up. I no longer double check.

LA traffic is terrible. So glad I live in the OC which is still bad but at least you never really fully stop.

Also depending on the day I go home for visits, but by the time I get home I check my avg. mpg and its usually are 22-24.

but if I leave when there is no more traffic than i usually avg. around 27-28.

06 Anthracite TL
06 with 75 K miles:
25 mpg in mixed driving- is consistent- car driven mostly at 50 mph on back roads- no heavy duty stop and go traffic, as in true city driving.
as high as 34 on long highway stretches with CC on at 65 mph
The only occasional additive I use is Gumout Regane

I don't know about additives, but I just did the 3x3 redline racing ATF and my mpg's went from and average of 33 hwy to 30 hwy. I don't know if there is a direct correlation though.

To you guys that say you use these products, im just curious (and this is an honest question im not poking fun at you). You say you are very happy with these products, but really what is it exactly that your happy with? So you spend $7.00 on a bottle of whatever it is, put it in your fuel tank, and your car will continue to do what it was designed to do regardless if you poured that stuff in your tank or not. So again, a serious question...what is it that makes you really like one of these products? Surely your car did not instantly start running better, or get improved economy, or faster acceleration. Basically my point is, im just trying to figure out how someone could say they are happy with a product that really does absolutely nothing to show for it. Your engine is going to run a couple hundred thousand miles if maintained properly regardless if you use those gimmick fuel additives.

I have an 08 Base TL. So far the best I have gotten is just around 31 mpg and the worse I've gotten is about 25 mpg. I do not use any type of fuel system cleaner, nor do I ever plan on using one.

I don't run into many Shell gas stations, so I'm forced to fill up on Bp or Mobil. Never been to a Chevron in my life lol. As for the fuel additives, they do help. Two weeks ago. I filled up at a gas station. Ended up with a check engine light. Used a can of Seafoam and it went away after 5 minutes.

To the rest, this has been posted over and over and over.
MPG= average MPH.
"City" to some is an average of 10mph and to others it's 45mph.
There's a thread, search for it, with people comparing average mph to mpg. Every TL gets the same mpg compared to mph.
When I average 35mph I get 26+mpg. When I average 9mph (which has happened with pure city driving) I get 11mpg. Nothing wrong with the car.

07' TL-S w/ 38k miles... I've gone on the highway MAYBE 3 times since I've owned the car and it's only seen past 5k RPM's a handful of times when I'm feeling frisky.
I work 5 miles from home and it's small streets with no traffic the whole way with just a couple of stop signs and lights.
Average 17 MPG and Average MPH is 25 for the past 1000 miles. lol

When I worked less than a mile from my hotel and it was well below freezing everyday, I switched to a 0w-20 for that 4 month trip. It was probably still a 50wt by the time I got to work but at least it helped a little.

TLs aren't that bad on gas. I'll say its better than my old '03 Civic Si, only got maybe 16-18mpg. Take it, it had H/E/I and k-pro retuned to 8k redline (6.7k stock).

I drive 70 miles a day to school and back monday-friday. When I can, I set cruise control to 75mph. Usually in the mornings at 6AM there's alot of traffic so I'm usually just cruising between 60-70 and 75 when I'm lucky. On the way home I cruise 75 all the way.
According to my android car APP on my phone (FuelLog), I average about 23.14mpg.
If you want to know what the MID tells me, it usually says 24MPG sometimes 25MPG. That's my average driving about 300-330miles on a tank of gas (I reset my MID at every fill-up)
On a trip back home from San Antonio I averaged 35MPG and even hit 36MPG for a good half a hour or so. It was just me and 1 passenger in the car. Nearly 280 miles and over 4 hours of driving.
