Do they act as air shrouds to direct heat flow? Because it doesn't seem to do anything except keep it hotter under there. Also does the felt under the hood do anything? Seems to me it just makes things hotter also.

The insulation under the hood probably keeps the hood a bit cooler so it won't expand and contract so much and develop stress cracks, esp in the paint. However the plastics in the bay, probably for both asthetic and air-flow reasons. It probably helps divert the air around the motor block...

i took the plastic covers off, they are pointless. its mainly to keep the engine looking cleaner, since all you need to do is wipe down the plastic and its set.

as for the felt under the cover, if there is ever a fire in the hood the felt is suppose to be a flame suppressant.

and +1 on csmenance

Those plastic shrowds under the hood are useless. Removing them is not an issue whatsoever. I ran with mine off most of the time I owned my car unless I was using it for a show.

Oh yes....love it. All the power on tap you would need and much more modifiable...ie...way more aftermarket parts. That and its so much faster than the supercharged TL I had.
