I'd also like to add
Automatic transmissions are heavier than the manual transmission and on all automatic models there are some vibration absorbing blocks placed around the engine compartment which also add weight. I know there is one located towards the front bumper. It looks like a brick to be exact.

To elaborate on a few of the posts, and referring to the '07 TL/TL-S:
The 6 M/T is only available in the TL-S
The weight difference between the 6 M/T and the 5 A/T is 115 lbs. w/Nav
Some of this weight difference in due to the fact that the M/T requires 1% more capacity in the cooling system, and the fact that the A/T's overall length is .5" longer, which means you get more car for your money. 5 A/T FTW
The final drive ratio on the A/T is 4.312, vs. 3.285 for the M/T
IMO, I do not consider the Brembos to have any advantages. They dust horribly, do not offer any superior stopping power than others in the same class, and they wear out quickly.
To the O.P........you may have noticed a little friendly sparring between the the M/T, and the A/T owners.......we're just funnin'

I just got to work and haven't had my coffee yet and read that subject VERY wrong. I was going to ask,
"Why wouldn't it come with all 6-speeds? Are that some that only come with 5 of the 6 speeds?"
UGH Fridays!

OMG. So I found a site that had all kinds of specs (http://www.new-cars.com/2004/acura/acura-tl-specs.html) and took the gear ratios from a 6mt '04 and put them into this calculator....look at the gearing limited top speed of 6th....
Kind of want that turbo and some weight reduction and the salt flats haha.

Seems like nobody is too sure about the 6mt tl's...well to start off i have a canadian 2005 acura tl "dynamic" w/ navi...no a spec (although i wish i did)...2004-2006 are all the same 6mt...as well as 2007-2008 type s! Dynamic (or Sport) FTW!!!

In the 6MT, every gear is a LOT shorter than the 5AT counterpart, but the Final drive is actually longer.
http://www.new-cars.com/2004/acura/acura-tl-specs.html
Even with the longer final drivel, the 6MT's gears are a lot shorter than the Auto's. This means there is considerably more torque available in every gear. On top of that it's just so much fun to drive.
Here is the speed and torque comparison at redline in each gear:
04TL--- 6MT----5AT----6MT's Torque Advantage
1st-----40------45-----12.5%
2nd-----63------75-----19.1%
3rd-----92------113----22.8%
4th-----125-----174----39.2%
5th-----160-----241----50.6%
6th-----203------------18.7% over 5AT's 5th

Those torque numbers can be misleading as there's only a 3-5% difference in straight line performance between the auto and manual.
Base manuals got larger front and rear swaybars, same shocks and springs.
TL-S obviously got a solid front bar and a larger rear bar over the base manual.
Freeway mileage was rated about the same between the auto and manual despite the auto's extra weight and hydraulic pump. This is because of the taller overall OD ratio.
Where Honda failed in both the auto and manual is using 2 overdrive gears. Why not have a close ratio 5 speed manual with only 6th as the OD?
Same with the auto. Why have two overdrives? Run a close ratio 4 speed and then 5th as the .5:1 OD. This is why the auto falls off so badly in 4th. 4th gear overall ratio is taller in the auto than the manual's 5th gear.

I don't think it's jealousy. He's right about the brakes. The auto stops just as short, even shorter in some tests. The Brembos only offer an advantage on the track with lots of repeated hard stops. Around town you'll stop just as quick or quicker with the 5at brakes. However, we all know the disadvantages of the Brembos. My stock 5at brakes were not even halfway worn down when I upgraded to 13" Rotoras at 90,000 miles.
And come on, we're talking about a TL here. They're 95% the same car and they're all slow.

Not so. Sorry if you don't want the intended humor.
I've owned both the 6 m/t, and 5 a/t, and I made a choice. Could have had either one. Have no regrets
