DIY:: Tail lights BASE to Type S

The search sucks.. And I don't have all day to look through the whole website.

Can anyone tell me how to change out the tail lights. I heard Its just Plug and play. Is this true?

Looking to get the type s tails on my 04 TL, the Depo ones n ebay.
Thanks

You have to remove your back bumper. Two bolts on the bottom of the tailights and then if you look inside you have to take out those knobs and pull out the interior a little to access your tails from the inside and unbolt from there.

Next you have to remove the led panels from the old and put them into the new one unless the new type s already has the led panels in it.

Have fun and welcome.

Note...you have to search in google or somewhere else for what you're looking for and include acurazine in the search. There is a problem with the internal search function.

Also, you will have to remove or at least pull off the top part of the back bumper to access the bolts. Check out the 3G garage for info on bumper removal.

TL>3G TL
then look at the sticky's...there's one that says garage and then you click the link and then control F to find the topic you're looking for.

As far as the bumper goes, I found it easier to remove the side that you'll be working on, this prevents you from having to remove the whole bumper. Just my .

I removed the screws in the wheel wells and the 2 bolts in the trunk, then pulled til most of the clips across the top popped out. I left the bottom attached. It was enough to get your hand in there and undo the 2 bolts that attach to the tail light.

How are people feeling about the depo lights on ebay? do they actually look like the stock ones? I am beginning to really like how they look. I have an 04 and something about the just red seems a little bland.

^^^i've heard great things about the people that own them . others who opted for OEM say that the depo's arn't perfect so that's why they spent the extra $40-50 to get the oem's. I, personally, think the depo's are fine

3G garage FTW! make sure you check it first before creating threads like these, there's tons of info in there.

The search on here takes some getting use to. I usually type in what I'm looking for and do "title only" and not do the "whole article" search. And it would help also to select the forum you want to look in and not all the different forums.

Yeah but much of the stuff in there is VERY dated and I think most people don't trust a post from 2005. Plus as noted by many, the search function here is less than helpful. That's why people post stuff that's been covered before, if the mod's fix the search and get the "Garage" cleaned up maybe people will follow your instructions.
