Ha, just did mine too. It was pretty bad with some leaves in it. Acura wanted $115 to replace a $20 filter... this was cake!

Update
I put a particulate filter in my car least month and I am switching to a carbon. With the Particulate I can smell everything that is outside the car from the guys cigarette in the car next to me to the diesel fumes from the Duramax I was stuck behind today. I just ordered the ATP from Rockauto

Hey guys - does anyone know where I can get the piece with the multiple plastic clips? I changed my cabin air filter and it seems that whoever changed it earlier broke off a lot of those plastic clips so now I have a rattle coming from my dash. Thanks guys.

I replaced this today and I broke the clip on the right side that's near the passenger door. Advice to others: try to push in(towards center console) and pull down. It's still staying intact from the 2 plastic pins and the 2 screws. I'm not gonna buy a whole new glove box for a 2 cm chip of plastic :/

Thanks for the DIY. Easy way to save money by just doing it yourself.
This might be a dumb question, but do the heater and air conditioner get air from the same place? I replaced my cabin air filter and I am getting the weird smell I got before when I use the heater. I only notice it when it's raining or when in the morning when it is cold out. I'm gonna check tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure the cold air smells fine and smells cleaner after changing the filter too. Anything else I should check? It sort of smells like wet dog.

Will a moderator please update the first how to post on doing this with the part #'s of each filter so we don't have to search threw all the posts and pick which filter we want. I want to get the best one (with carbon) like I have the last two but don't remember the part #.

Just ordered 2 from rock auto and price was 40.ish shipped for the ATP # HA5
But thats ^^^ how mine looked when I replaced it. Car had 25k miles on it and pretty sure original owner never changed it. I have a musty smell when on recirc A/C so figured would give the charcoal a try.
Been a year and only 8k miles since I changed the cabin filter but I will be replacing it at least yearly if not sooner depending what I find out.
Good write up even for an older thread.

Just did mine for the 5th time since new. I went with the Fram baking soda and activated carbon filter. It won't stop all smells but you do notice a difference, there's absolutely no smell from the vents and when you get into the car you notice there's no smell at all. It definitely makes everything seem a little fresher. The used filter as usual looked like someone dumped a couple handfulls of sand in it.

Hmmm, mine was changed when I bought the car certified pre-owned. Iv'e only put about 10k on it since, but sometimes when I get in especailly after using the A/C and the windows have not be cracked I notice an occasional odor. I may just have to look into this.

The last time I had a beer while working on a car I set the cam 30 degrees off and bent every valve.

What country makes the ATP HA-5 carbon filter?
Has anyone noted the country in which the ATP brand, HA-5 Carbon-type filter is made? It should be printed on the side of the filter: "MADE IN country?"
For those who want an anternative Carbon type filter, I have found 5-different brands that make a Carbon type filter. The only one that I am certain is made in the USA (not CHINA), is the MicronAir HN03104C (carbon) vs. the MicronAir HN03104P ("white" particle filter).
