DIY: Replacing Cabin Air Filter 3G Garage DIY F-130

Make it so
You're missing the two gear clips that go on either side of the interior of the globe box (they are black, they look like tetris pieces with little black wheels with teeth on them). They clip in and prevent the glove box from falling all the way down.

The clips I am talking about are the ones in the following two pictures (on either side of the glove box interior):
Also, make sure you've clipped in the telescoping hinge that is in the bottom right portion of the picture:

just got done doing this on my 04.
No clips inside the glovebox, instead you had to slightly bend the sides of the glovebox to get it to swing down.
Broke one clip pulling the glovebox housing out..closest to the valet trunk switch. Put it all back in and it seems to hold. It's going to bug me so I'll probably superglue/epoxy it when I have time/materials.
the old filter was way dirty...i wonder how all that crud gets in there..

Price Update for RockAuto.com:
Cabin Air Filter
ATP HA5 = $13.13 ('activated carbon' filter)
WIX 24815 = $10.64 (regular filter)
Engine Air Filter
Wix 49224 = $12.40
I ended up buying the 3 of them together, so I have an extra cabin filter for the future. Total with shipping was $43.09, so it's cheaper than amazon.com at this time.

hi all, i changed mine again in my '04 TL yesterday and broke one of the two push-pin clips (the little round plastic clips that have a pin in the center - bottom picture in post #285 above). Believe or not, I somehow managed to lose one of the two screws that holds the glove compartment on (not a good day).
Does anyone know the part numbers for both, and if I can order on -line?

I replaced my filter about two weeks ago. It was pretty simple other than breaking one of the push clip. One thing I almost missed when placing the filter back in the tray and I haven't seen this mentioned on this forum:
You must place the edges of the filter in the slot of the tray or you will have an opening in the filter element.
If someone posted this I missed it. If you have yet to replace your filter don't miss this important step.

I'm doing mine tomorrow after work. I have 80,000 miles and believe it's still the original filter in there. I want to open it up and see how filthy it is. By the way I'm not a Fram filter fan but I was at Walmart today and seen the Fram fresh breeze filters on clearance for $4.00. I figured why not, it's just a cabin filter.

I just changed my filter again. My car is 7 years old, so I've probably saved well over $500 doing this myself instead of having the stealership do it all these years. This forum is awesome!

i am about to order one of these for when i get back home. For the past three months my work has been on a really dusty jobsite. I tried keeping my car clean for a while then gave up in one week it literally gets as dirty as normally would from 2 months. I hate driving in a dirty car but i can't wash it once a week and i won't go through an automatic car wash.
Anyways i can tell the fan is working super hard and the air is not fresh anymore at all it has a distinct dirty smell.... def need to do this.

Just checked mine today, seems fine for now. Just started working on all my cars at home the last few months. Been getting ripped off SEVERELY from what I can tell for years now. Charging upwards of $150 for a dang Cabin Filter! BS. Not having money to spend on repairs really opened my eyes up to the thievery the dealers (and some auto shops) take from customers.
Anyways, also broke one of my clips and may have to recheck the replacement of the housing because there is a little gap towards the corner.
Thanks for all your help fellas!

Just got done changing my filter out, was easier than I thought it was going to be! Glad I could save close to $100 by doing it myself instead of doing it at the dealership lol

Glad I found this thread. Cabin filter has been on my to-do list for some time now.
Its an '05 and has 130k on it... Smells a bit off inside if I switch it off of circulate.

Just replaced mine yesterday. I didn't have the clips, but figured it out pretty easy just by pushing the two sides inward. The wife has been wanting me to do this, and says she feels a difference in the air, we also just got more coolant, so who knows. This definitely beats doing it at the stealership for 60 bucks. great DIY guide.

Great video on this but ended up breaking off one of the plastic clips when I was removing the last part according to the video. I could care less about that piece now being it is easier coming off now as well as going back on. Replaced it with the Fram Fresh Breeze filter
