The OEM is a micron filter, where I dont know what the ATP is. I know the atp has charcoal. the link doesnt work, however I did find the bosch filter and it is pretty expensive.
Why dont you guys just get another OEM filter?

Q. Are there other names for a cabin filter?A. Yes, here is a list of cabin filter aliases; Pollen Filter, Interior Air Filter, Micro Filter, Micron Filter, Combi/Combo Filter, Dust Filter, Air Conditioning Filter, Passenger Compartment Air Filter, A/C Particle Filter, Dust & Pollen Filter, Interior Ventilation Filter.
So micron filter is just another name for cabin filter.

Charcoal Filters go one step better. They have an additional carbon layer that absorbs toxic and foul-smelling gases such as ozone, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide and hydrocarbons, plus an additional cover layer for extra protection. This results in a noticeable improvement in the air inside the vehicle.
Would you agree its worth the extra $2 ?

Also, I can confirm the charcol filter does work. I went to visit some friends of mine and they live near 2 dairy farms. Talk about your cow pie smell. It was all over the city when I first hit the area my car stunk like sh**. I turned on recirculating, when I got to their house and stepped out of the car I notice the air outside did stink.
Same thing when I left the air stunk but once I got in my car it was clean. Maybe not 100% but like 80%.

I got an OEM one yesterday. I pulled mine out with 54k miles on it, it didnt look too bad, it was dark in some areas, I was just going to blow off some of the debris on it. Good thing I didnt, because when I compared it to the new one there was no comparison. The new one is soo white, and makes the old filter look black, like someone put it in mud and tired to rinse it off. The air seems to smell better too.

What does that hook on the right side do? Mine doesn't connect to anything. It just sits there. I thought it would be connected to the glove box. My car doesn't have those 2 tabs either. I just pulled the whole thing off.

The hook on the right side connects to the door so it doesn't drop down and break the hinges.

Anyone care to share the dimensions of the cabin filter?
I ordered two HA5s again from rock auto, but this time the filter looks different than the first time I got it, and it also looks a little too big. I don't want to have to open up the glove box assembly to find that the filter they sent is not the correct size.
Also, they sent me a paper filter in one of the boxes. So only one of them was a charcoal filter.

jus ordered the ATP #HA5 Cabin Air Filter, filter + shipping came to $23.00..seems like the price keeps going up since this thread started but not that big of a deal. $15.80 for filter and $7.20 shipping. im going to cut out a rectangular hole in the housing so next time all i need to do is un-clip the glovebox and pop in the filter..taking my time should take more then an 1/1.5 hrs to remove the whole thing, cut it out and put it back together

Anyone ordered/replaced the engine air filter from Rockauto as well? I need to replace both and figured I would try and get them both from Rockauto. Thoughts? Reccomendations?

Hello everyone. I just recently changed my cabin filter, and i kinda ran off without reading the thread, even though it was RIGHT in front of my face! and i kinda broke one of the pins that holds up up the glove box framing. (the ones that has the center hole to unlock them) Any where i can get one of these? oh yeah, and the other one, i don't know how to put back in, it wont lock back up when pushing the pin in. Thanks
ie these pins:

Great thread
Thanks everyone for your tips and pics. I just got done and this saved me $140. I snapped a bunch of pics with my new cell phone. Unfortunately, it's a cell phone. The pics are crap. So I am unable to contribute back to this wonderful thread.
In lieu of that, here's a couple of things I learned:
- The poster who suggested pulling on glove compartment assembly horizontally, starting with the right hand side. With the exception of the upper left corner, the rest came right out easily. The left corner took quite a bit of tugging. Just keep pulling horizontally.
- I did not take the glove box off the compartment assembly, nor did I disconnect the wires. I didn't want to loosen the screws, or accidently break the plastic clips on the wiring harnesses. So what I found out was that by lifting the whole assembly up so the wires are not in the way, the old filter was able to slide out. At the end of the day, I only had to unscrew two bolts at the bottom, and pop the two plastic fasteners at the top. [P.S. another for the poster who said to push in the center pin on the plastic fasteners. Left to my own devices, I would have pried them off and royally hosed the fasteners in the process]
Now that I know what is involved, I guess, it is not too hard for a trained tech to do this quite quickly - meaning, I would not necessarily recommend cutting a hole in front of the filter.
Thx everyone.

This should work unless something else is broken with the pin (probably from forcing it out before it was "released").

O'reilly/Microguard cabin air filters?
Has anyone tried the O'reilly/Microguard cabin air filters? I can't find any detailed info on them and the O'reilly website doesn't give any details.

^^^^Never mind, it's a two piece, non-charcoal, $15.99. ATP is better. The Bosch is a two piece as well. (This is for '04TL).

When I pulled the back housing out, 2 or 3 of my clips broke? DOes anyone know if there is a way to replace just the back assembly, not the whole glove box or am I better off using some sort of apoxy to glue the clips back on the housing? THanks in advance

One of the reasons why there is so much disparity between your air filters is because the one on the left is a Charcoal cabin filter, and the Acura one is not. The charcoal filter has the grey colored membrane.

No,
The one on the left is just dirty... :-)
Acura does not make a charcoal filter... I changed mine the first time at about 10 or 12K. It looked the same. Depending on your environment the cabin filter could easily be justified/changed every 6 months. Thats why so many of us have created an easy access. Keeps from degrading the clips etc. of the entire glove box assembly - not that that's a big deal or process either.
Cheers

What does DIY stand for? I need to replace my air cabin filter as well. I had that A12 service pop message due soon, and when i went to get an oil change, i asked acura how much it would cost to do it, he said around 40 something for the labor and 89.99 for install..im like..uh kay..i'll probably come back. But my friend told me that i could just do it myself and for a waaay cheaper. So I am going that route and i am going to follow these directions would seem every helpful.
Where do you guys suggest i should but a replacement and how do i know if i am getting the right one for my car? I have an 06 Tl.
Thanks.

Quick question though, i went to your post and navigated through the site,
what are the differences between the following filters:
FILTER ASSY., AIR CONDITIONER
ELEMENT, FILTER
CABIN AIR FILTER
AIR PC CABIN FILTER
VENT FILTER

The '04 TL Service Manual refers to the cabin filter as the Pollen Filter, but most people just call it the cabin filter. As for after-market OEM replacements, consider the Purolator C35519. Pep Boys and Advance Auto carry it.
