Thumbs up "DIY" - Mole skin !!

Wassup every one, here's a little quick DIY Moleskin install... Most of the links and threads are dead on this so I just had to create one

Stuff Needed :

*Flat head
*Phillips Screw driver
*Rubbing alcohol
*Paper Towel
*** Strong fingers if you have "Virgin Door Panels"

First you need to remove your door panels (don't have any front panel pics but ill post the rear panel) 4 screws for front 3 for rear

Panel comes off and Weatherstrip stays on the doors body. (pic of the final product showing weatherstrip on metal)

*Remove the weatherstrip by pulling it up

Weatherstrip looks like this, clean those 2 flaps with alcohol using a paper towel.

After cleaning measure Moleskin on strip

Apply moleskin as close as possible to edge of weatherstrip

Make sure you cover "BOTH FLAPS" with the moleskin, DO NOT CUT the moleskin just wrap it down if u have the 1" felt.

At the end of the weatherstrip pointy blade looking edge, make sure u cut the felt and "Cure it" by removing the glue, either rubbing ur finger on it or using a lil tab of alcohol so glue can not get on window.

Your strip should look like this when moleskin is installed

This screw was a bitch to remove so i had to use a vise grip, be careful as you make scratch your paint

Strip on the door

And viola moleskin install complete... Just reverse the uninstall of door panel to put back together and you are good to go :too cool:

Comments and everything else welcome!!

Later Evan.

You used to be able to purchase free moleskin that was a 1" wide roll that was long enough for all 4 windows from empirepao. All you had to pay was shipping which costed about $5. That website has shut down within the last 6-8 months though, so you have to find it elsewhere.

Luckily I purchased a roll before the site ended. This DIY truly shows how simple it is. I have had the moleskin for about 7 months now but never installed it because other DIYs made it seem complicated. I'll do this soon. Thanks!

Acuracake, on that tintprotector.com, it says "you do not have to remove your door panels
to install Tint Protector Felt on the TL." How would that work?

I just installed mine today, and it was very easy to do with removing the door panels.

The instructions include a way to do it without tools, but they do not recommend it because it can wrinkle the weather strip.

Its easiest to remove the door panels, theres really nothing to it!

Very easy to Install. Didnt remove door panel. Use as one piece and do not cut. I folded the felt over the top edge of the seal so it cannot grab the edge while rolling up and down. There great. My windows are quiet and scratch free. Got it from tintprotector.com I also left them out after tinting windows and set the seals on the dash for a day or two so the glue would set. Sanded seals down with fine steel wool and wash with alcohol.

It's really expensive for 10 feet of this stuff.

I found this place that sells you 100 feet for basically the same price;

http://www.technologylk.com/crl-1-wi...-lk-C5901.html

They have 2 inch wide rolls too.

Installed the moleskin yesterday and wow it was a piece of cake. The door panels are easy to remove compared to my old civic. Great DIY, thanks again

PS: If you go to the following link you'll save an additional $2

wonder if this stuff would work....way cheaper than 30 bucks for the "kit"

I know hobby lobby and michaels sells sheets of it for about 6 bucks and is enough to do all 4 windows but just wonder how you would go about adhering it to weatherstrip....

Gotta ask, any of you guys have "scratch resistant" tint without mole skin? Any damage? I hope I'm not hijacking the thread. I haven't had any problems yet and I'm still kind of debating if I should bother in doing the moleskin or not

Better safe than sorry. It only takes about 30mins to do and you don't even really need to take off the door panels if you're careful.
