DIY LED DRL (with module for '04-'06 models w/9006 bulb) Thanks 2 USR!
I'm not sure this is the right place for it, but figured I'd post up a quick DIY for a great new product from Unique Style Racing (Simon is the contact there).
I'd heard recently that he'd been working on an LED module that had an attached resistor/load to work as a DRL for the 07-08 crowd and avoid any error codes etc. I contacted him in hopes that he's make an application for us 3G'ers that had the DRL module attached. I'd long ago gotten tired of the yellow Nokya look for my DRL's, especially when I put in my white switchbacks. I wanted a bulb that would match pretty closely.
Well here is the solution...pretty close to a 6000K white IMO...and looks great and best of all...works FLAWLESSLY with the DRL module I bought from autobarn about 3 years ago.
Thanks again for all your hard work, Simon and I hope this does trigger some interest for other 04 to 06 TL'ers out there.
Even if you DON'T have a DRL module, this will allow you to run an LED bulb at full wattage...
Here's what you receive:
I bought the external mini fuse and added a 30amp fuse for safety
guessed how much extra wiring I needed and soldered it up...
bulb wired and working!
Ok, and wiring polarity was reversed for these but they still plugged in, just line up your red wire with your oem NON black wire
and the bulb base was slightly thinner so to ensure a tight fit, I used some plumbing teflon tape to make it thicker and to keep it snug
wired up the positive wire from both wires from the box to the positive of the battery and then popped in some double sided tape and installed the resistor portion
and here is the before
and the after
and all buttoned up
from a distance

and some more shots...went out with the DSLR and new filter, but got rained out
new ass shot...
AND THIS IS EXACTLY THE LOOK I WAS GOING FOR. Was so over the yellow in the headlights...had a yellowish hue when off, which I didn't like...and it would clash when my DRL module was on and the parking lights. Now, it's perfection...thanks again USR!
(I also have a kill switch for my DRL module in case I want to be blacked out)
SNAKE EYES...

Looks hawt J! Nice job! I put my DIY install of the ijdmtoy kit for the 07-08 TL in the 3G general section and no mods moved it. This is an awesome look for the 04-06 crowd! Well done sir!

Thanks, man!
Yeah, for the 07-08 crew...this is a no brainer, for sure. Technically, it's no more work for us earlier models but USR is the only one that makes a 9006 DRL friendly LED setup that I know of.
Have a great weekend.

Hey - this looks great. Thanks for posting the detailed writeup! Just so that I understand, for my 2005 TL to get to this stage, I need to (1) install the Autobarn DRL adapter, then (2) install this setup from USR?

Yes sir, that's it!
Figured it'd help to have this too:
This was the DIY thread for the DRL module and all different companies that make them etc...I don't think the autobarn one is available anymore, but there are different options.

I read in a previous thread having to do with resistors and the LED mods to the front lights and using doublesided tape wasn't the greatest of ideas because the resistor gets too hot and could cause the tape to fail. Have you experienced this with this setup?

Jeremy as always great install....
If you wait a little bit longer, USR is coming out with the DRL module as well....so you will have DRL module and LEDs from the same manufacturer....

he is coming out with 3-4 items....DRL module/DRL LED's with code eliminators/relay with resistor which eliminates hyperblinking/indicators which might not need load resistors....
I was telling him couple of those items are redundant....so if you get the indicators which have the resistance so you dont need the relay mod....ya know what i mean?
lets see....he is still thinking about it....
haha do work it on.....goes a long way

^^^ Thanks man....I do email him every now and then with some ideas which i come up with....and he is awesome to work with....he follows up with me when the items are ready to come out and if they need any fitment or "do they work" test....
he did mention about this thread and i told him i had already posted on here....and he was like "does Azine pay you for all this"
i told him if it did couple members on here (including Jeremy) would be millionaires haha

Thanks Desper...
Yeah, it's a love it or hate it kinda thing. I've had nothing on the back before and end up thinking it looks too plain. I've thought about doing the lip spoiler and roof spoiler but I'm not a huge fan and EVERYONE has that look...so I always end up back with the spoiler on. I dig it!

Hey rockstar. I am converting my 04 tl front end to an 08 type s. Now I'm going to be adding the 08 fog lights so I wanted to add LED fogs in the headlight housing as well. is there a way to use both upper and lower fogs simultaneously without turning on headlights? (i want to be able to turn these two on at the same time without adding an extra switch in my car and running it strictly off of the oem fog light switch) I see in your pics, it's just the fogs in the headlights, idk if you know if this can be done or not, but figured id ask. . .btw i freakin LOVE the blue ring in the headlights. . . looks badass lol

Thanks man...
Yes, of course, everything is possible.
First of all, you could likely just wire up your bumper fogs to come on with your OEM fogs (in the headlight housing) and just use the oem stalk switch to turn them both on at the same time. With LED's the amperage would be low enough that I don't think overheating or melting will be an issue as far as wires and fuses go.
Now, this thread is about a DRL module, which you don't have unless you added one. If you DO have one and you are trying to run your bumper fogs independent from your oem fogs/drl area then the answer would be slightly different.

here is the thread:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/g-029-diy-independent-fog-lights-stock-switch-772633/
what Jeremy has done is added an aftermarket DRL module and then USR DRL eliminator....it kinda negates itself but he likes it so

Well, yes and no...
the DRL module adds functionality of having oem fogs on alone...
the USR module allows the LED'S full voltage to keep from blinking/not functioning correctly.
BUT, I misread what you wanted to to...that thread above will likely allow you run your oem fogs alone and then you can wire up your bumper fogs to them to run those too.

you'd need a resistor to not get the DRL "out" dash light...
also, functionality is hard to gauge...on my fiancee's 08 accord...no issues, put in the resistor and we're good. on my car, the led's would stay dimly illuminated (maybe it's the module).

LED's offer lower resistance than bulbs....
its something like you switching out the indicator bulbs for switchback/regular leds....they hyperflash as the LED's dont offer much resistance and hence the computer thinks the bulb is blown !!!
DRL's are the same way....the minute you put LED's in there, the computer thinks the bulb is blown and hence you have to add a load resistor...the module provides the needed resistance and hence your DRL's work just fine and you dont get the DRL malfunction indicator in the dash

the TL has bi-xenons....so the same HID's are your low and high beams....
the other lights uptop (2004-2006 models) are your fog lights which basically dont do much....in the later models 07+ these got converted into DRL's and you get the fogs in the lower grille....

I purchased LEDs, harness and resistors from VLED for my Canadian TL. They look and work great, although they throw the DRL code on my dash. I thought that the whole point of the extra hardware was to eliminate the code?

Jeremy... This is so off subject BUT your car is is lowered PERFECTLY!!! My car would be .5in higher so I could still transfer into the car from my wheelchair...lol. Your wheels offset is perfect making them flush with the cars body. Again job WELL DONE bro.
#35
I would imagine for transfer my height would make it easier to get IN the car, but probably more challenging to get out since you'd have to slide on the board going uphill. It's been a work in progress but it always makes me smile to know someone likes it too! Thanks again.

I just purchased my 04 Acura TL and im new to this site and the acura world.. So I'm having trouble understanding what your describing here on this thread. Are you saying that the DIY LED DRL allows only the top foglights on a 04-06 to turn on? (Like the picture u have above titled "snake eyes")

Until it gets dirty...then you wish you had SSM again, trust me! Thank you though.
J.
I'm sorry, not exactly sure how else to re describe what was needed and how it was accomplished. 2 separate things are needed:
1 DRL module to turn your oem fogs to DRL lights. Separate
1 USR LED DRL setup to allow you to use LED's with the above module.
