DIY: EZ removable front plate!!!!

Well, normally I don't do write-ups for my custom mods, but I decided id be nice and share this one

I've had this plate holder for 3 years, and I recently decided to update the set-up. My goal was to make it very inexpensive and so easy to remove and reinstall so that you don't even need any hand tools!

Pros:

1) Low Profile
2) Pretty cheap and worthwhile mod for the convenience it offers
3) You can still unscrew plate like normal, or reach behind the bumper and remove the entire thing at once with only your hands!!
4) Easily removable for car wash/waxing, car meets, photo shoots....

Cons:

1) You'll have to park your azz on your driveway for a while

What you'll need...

Local auto store:
- universal plate holder (got mine at autozone)
- 3M spray adhesive
- Paint (if you want to paint outer edges)

Hardware store:
- (2) #10-24 x 1-1/8 long stainless steel screw
- (2) #10-24 stainless steel wing nut
- (2) #10 stainless steel washer
- (4) 1/4-20 x 1/4 long stainless steel screw (this length will NOT go beyond the plate holder, so, your bumper is safe here)
- Power Drill with .218 sized drill bit
- Small sheet of flooring foam as a cushion or something just as tough
- Screwdriver to screw plate onto plate holder
- Anti-rotation assembly shown below (picture 4 & 5)

Make sure to keep your cushioning sheet clean before install!!

Hardware pics for reference

You have two options for the rotation stop assembly (as mentioned above):
Style 1: Requires 2 more wing nuts and thread-locking adhesive
Pro: Easier and cheaper to do
Con: You'll actually have some initial play unless you get creative with some epoxy or a dremel kit

or (The set-up I'm using)

Style 2: Requires 2 #10-24 stainless steel nuts, and a 3/8" aluminum strip
Pro: That sh*t ain't going nowhere!
Con: Takes longer to make, and costs a wee bit more

Now, you need to carefully open the two holes on the bumper.
Use the .218 drill bit, and start slow until you drill through.

And that's it, your ready to install!!!!

Low profile looks sooooo fresh and so clean!

Ditto! Too much work for removing the plates without tools. I mean how often are you going to take off your plates?

this is too much work? Are you kidding me?

ok....

Since no one seems to understand what the point of the thread is, here are some ground rules :

1) If you don't like it, then keep it moving, it's that simple...

2) This is not a poll, a debate, nor is it a comparison thread. It's a write up for someone who'd like a different option for a plate set up -without flaws or maintainence...

I can easily name several possible flaws with the flipping plate anyway... If you wanna discuss that, PM ME, do not clog up my thread!

You can't post something and expect people to not point out flaws or criticisms.
