DIY Alignment Question

So I bought all the stuff to do my alignment on my car. Going to he using toe plates with camber / caster measurements. I've done alignments for years using Hunter machines, but never using toe plates. I no longer have a shop or access to the alignment machines.

My question is with setting the toe and having a straight thrust line and steering wheel. How do you know which side needs adjusted? I get that you can make the total toe to spec, but that could still make the thrust line off or the steering wheel off centered. Am I just missing something simple or what? The alignment machines tell you which side to adjust to make it straight lol. I was spoiled for too many years!

Thanks!

I too want to do my own alignment as it will be important for me in the future to get the most out of tires.

Here is a video that helped me learn the basics og garage alignments.

Thanks so much! That is exactly what I was looking for. Appreciate it! I actually bought the same tool he uses in the video.
