Difference b/w Auto and 6 speed TL-S

Besides the obvious transmission difference is there any differnce in brakes, sway bars, suspension components. I test drove an '07 Auto TL-S today and thought it was pretty responsive. Is 0-60 times different. Thanks

That's about it.

If you can drive a MT really well I assume. I wonder what professional testers get on each.

The AT is limited to like 134mph while the MT is not.

Well that's close to 150 mph. If he can take it that much, then he should keep going until he hits the limiter. When he does, let me know what it is.

I would not drive this car to 150.. you guys are crazy!

but to OP, not sure if there is a difference between the two models..

I know on the base model there is a difference..

Thicker Rear sway bar
brembo brakes

I know these differences exist on the '04 - '06 6 speed vs. Auto but do they exist on the '07 - '08 TL-s or is the only difference Auto vs. 6 speed? Thanks

The MT TL-S has a Limited Slip Differential and weighs less. Apparently, it doesn't have a governor at 134 mph either.

The base 08 TL auto doesn't have a limiter at 134. I taken mine to 150. The limiter is 155. But on TL-S the limiter is on 134. Thats wierd.

I will say, as much I don't like the 5AT TL, I drove one for a week (08 base loaner), and I do have to say, it was nice just driving and having my hands on the wheel all the time. and not shifting my feet around all the time.

I found it to be more of a "fun / lazy" driving experience, than the "sporty / fast" driving experience I get with my 6MT.

I love my 6MT, but considering the IS350 as my next car, and I may go automatic with it.

you know, the older you get, the more "fun / lazy" you get

No Type S in '04-'06 but the MT does have the LSD. Auto's did not have it. The 6MT also got the brembo brakes and thicker rear sway bar that the auto's did not. Guess what most are saying from a handling perspective my '06 6MT will HANDLE exactly like an '07 Type S. A a pure fun to drive my '06 MT is better than the '07 type s in auto form (this is only if you value shifting and truly get more enjoyment out of shifting than a slushbox). As it relates to speed my '06 6MT will be about equal(maybe sligthly slower) to the auto Type S but the 6MT in the Type S would be the best. In my experience you have to be a good stick driver to beat an auto off the line anyways. And ti do this you have to tach up to abour 2500 rpm and really unleash the 6MT. Rather just punch the auto in those situations. Just my opinion on this though.

Yes I too was not pleased to be the one to discover this fact. But at least it is known now and people can make better informed decisions from it.

It is on the auto transmission but not so on the 6 speed manual transmission.

nice to know it has the LSD. My 06' is a 6MT and while I haven't compared it to a Type-S, Im very happy with the way it handles. The only thing I may do is get the A-spec suspension kit, for the slight lowering, and slightly stiffer handling.

It says in the owner's manual of my 04 that the top speed is 150, it doesn't mention a speed limiter, it just says to put extra air in the tires if you plan to go that fast.

The 134-135mph governor applies to 07-08 TL-S AT models.
