Did the 3G TL have valet keys?
Was going to do a search, but for some reason the ability to search only certain forums has been removed from advanced search options. I dont have a valet key and wasnt sure if there even was one. If there is one, how do I get it?

I know I have one with my 07 TL Type S. When I bought my car, I got 3 keys. I'm sure you should have one too, but I do no know for sure because they did change the keys starting with the 07 models. I'm sure you could get one at your dealer, but who knows how much it cost.

You can probably get one from a dealership, but it likely will be as costly as a regular key to program and cut.

The 3g tl came with 2 main keys, and 1 valet key. The valet key is not cut the same way as main keys. For those of you that have the valet key, try using it on your glove box and rear seat pass through. It's not going to work, because the point of the valet key is to prevent the valets from messing with your personal items.
As far as programming that may be a little tricky since there's no buttons so you may have to check with the dealer
The way the dealer key machine works is, they can either cut it based off your VIN, or they can cut it by replicating another key. Replicating another key is the easiest way since it takes into account the wear the key has. A new fresh key based off the VIN has a possibly of getting stuck in the ignition, look up some threads you'd be surprised. When I got my replacement key cut by replicating another key, even then it took a couple tries in the ignition before it became smooth.

Keep Right Except to Pass
I also received a valet key with my '04. I use it every year when we visit relatives in Florida and take the Auto Train back home—we put everything we're not carrying onto the train in the trunk and I then lock the pass-through, disable the trunk-release button, and lock the glovebox.
The valet key has a grey color instead of the standard black color of the regular two keys.
I assume you'd need to contact a dealer because I believe the keys all have some sort of chip that communicates with the car to prevent someone from just going to a hardware store and cutting a duplicate key.

Correct, the "new" valet key will have to be programmed to be able to start your car.

'05 owner here, and my car only came with one set of keys. Many years later, I realized I possessed a valet key when I compared it to another set of keys that had a black base (which I thought was only for '04 models but was entirely wrong). Mine is gray; never tried locking the glovebox or pass-through but will test it soon.
Somebody mentioned it being cut differently from the true driver keys - is that why the dealer broke one of my new keys during the cutting process? Those milled switchblades are pricey to replace.
Edit: Oops, entirely forgot to answer the OP. I can confirm we have a valet key, but I assume you would have to get ahold of one through paperboy's post.

no thats not why. cutting is tricky, regardless of who does it. the machine isnt perfect and sometimes makes errors. thats why a lot of dealerships wont cut keys that you bring in, because if they mess up then they would be liable. however if you buy a key from them, they can just keep cutting them until they get it right.
