The Details of the Auto Temp Control

Does any one know how "in depth" the Auto temperature control goes to make your car the temperature desired?

Many other cars, even in auto, have the icons for fan and air flow show ing (or available to see) so you know what is going on (not that is is such a big deal, since AUTO means the car is controlling it anyway).

In my last car, AUTO would adjust the "MODE" (where the air blows from) and the FAN (although would never go to speed 1 on AC for some reason).

I have seen other cars where the Auto is much more comprehensive, and also controls weather you are getting recirc or fresh air etc based on the in and outside temps.

Anyone know how much control the TL "AUTO" has on adjustments.

Mike

PS - In my last car, if it was cold, the car would automatically go to front window defog for a miniute or two before going to floor heat, which was helpful many times.

MikeRadio, what is your last car?

You're saying the 04TL is not the real AUTO, right? I gotta try...

I'm not saying that at all...

I am curious how MUCH it controls.

Will it just control the fan and mode.. or also the recirc?

There is no easy way to find out without talking to a designer I assume....

Has anyone experienced the feature where the passenger side is heatred/air cooled different based on the direction you travel? Does this just HAPPEn without indication? or does things change.. and does it work when in Auto also?

I did try this feature while traveling to the South last month, and it worked. My wife and I did feel the AC was adding the flow to the side where the sun is... I was in Driver-full-control Auto mode plus Navi on...

It has two separate temp. sensors, one for each side. It will recirculate if needed. It will adjust fan speed/temperature but not mode.

I've experienced this and it works. My wife likes the car much warmer than I do, so when air is blowing at 75 degrees I certainly don't feel it on my side, which is set to 65 degrees. It does work in Auto mode, the temp is just set differently on each side manually.

I KNOW it controls MODE.... Mode is where the air flow comes from... It knows heat from bottom and AC from top and other combinations depeneding on indoor and outdoor temp.

The acura calls it mode byt other cars call it FLOW and other things....

I know AUTO definitely controls that!

Nope, it will not automatically switch to defrost/defogger like that, even in full auto mode. It will adjust the fans to put more air to your feet or less, thats about it.

From the Quick Start Guide..."AUTO is displayed when the system is in fully automatic mode, and the system regulates the interior temperature, MODE controls, and fan speed"

However, most OEM's don't consider defrost mode a comfort mode so it is not included in the auto algorithms. The system will direct air to your face when it's hot outside and to your feet when it's cold out. On mild days it will blend between your face and feet.

It is also possible that the auto control will switch from fresh to recirc when it's really hot outside to help cool the vehicle faster, or when the engine gets a little too hot to help reduce the compressor load on the engine.
