Talking Design of the TL

Ok, we're all pretty pumped about the new TL. How do they do it? Any Acura designers or engineers lurking? Who can discuss the process for the quadrennial major rev changes or the point upgrades? I'm sure we would like to be test subjects for any new features being considered. Price/feature/performance trade-offs and scenarios would be interesting. After seeing the humongo-thread on TL owner occupations, looks like the majority of us are in the IT biz - so, these questions are what we deal with as well, just not (usually) bending metal.

ok, the concepts. Aren't you just a tiny bit interested in how they get us to part with our $30k+ every few years? There's gotta be some focus group those designers tap. What are they thinking? Yes, of course I am not expecting the "secrets" of Honda/Acura. [What was that noise?]

Of course they do market studies and focus groups as well as internal audits and reviews. The process of designing a new car starts 3-5 years in advance.

I once participated in a focus group for new car design. It ended up being for Nissan, and we reviewed and discused features and styling ideas. They do these all over the country. Sometimes, however, it seems that they don't listen.

It especially seems that Toyota's styling department is ignoring any common sense! What are they thinking?? !!!!

toyota makes the most boring cars in the world. they are great reliable cars but sooooooo boring. get with the programs and stop making the same gosh darn camry every year. that thing hasn't changed for the past 10 years. i mean it looks different but still the same car pretty much. just look at the maxima, even tho alot of people do not like the new styling queues. compare all the new tech that is in it with a maxima 10 years ago. its added alot of renovation.

the styling cues on the new maxima are not new. its a lame attempt to make it like the z car. same thing they did 10 years ago by making it look like the then new altima which was a hit. nissan styling sucked back then. the new maxima is not pretty. well unless you change the front grill. acura/honda styling has sucked for a long time until the tsx and new tl. too bad they cant get the rl to look as good as the second gen legend.

What I want to know is how Honda got the new TL so right, when the new Accord so wrong!

As much as I love the new TL, I don't know what they were smoking when they designed the back end of the Accord. In my 20 years as a Honda owner, this is the second ugliest sedan they've built, next to an earlier model CL that I couldn't stand. I'll say this - if Honda has put the new TL design out as a Honda Accord with aggressive pricing, they would have buried the Camry and Taurus.

It is very simple, they got a few new designers onboard.
