The vibs on my 04:

- Flatspotting - corrected by changing the PVC EL42's to TU2 EL42's (then got Bridgestone/Firestone to replace the TU2's with LS-Z).

- Driveline - at 1500 - 1800RPM in 5th gear (but can be felt at other gears/RPMs) the torque lock converter (so I've been told) causes a vib felt in the steering wheel, gas petal, seats. It is accompanied with a droning sound - kind of like the car is in the wrong gear. Some have this condition worse than others.

- Highspeed - usually at 65/70+ MPH - the steering wheel visibly shakes. It begins when I bring the car up to speed then maintain the speed. All of a sudden, and like clockwork, the steering wheel shakes. I've heard this is related to the TLC and/or a subframe issue - but who really knows?

hope this helps -

I have 05 TL and have tried to reproduce it a lot of time but can't... Is the vibration really really obvious or kind of subtle?

my question is more in regards to DEFINITION of the term DRIVELINE VIBRATION...

I want to know...what exactly is driveline vibration?

is it any vibration associated while driving? like if I go over a pothole...am I not suppose to feel it?

Driveline vibration is usually associated with the vibration you feel when driving around 55-60 mph in 5th gear, which is around 1500 rpm. It is supposedly caused by exhaust tuning. You can tell if this is the cause by going to SS and downshift to 4th gear. If it goes away, that is the infamous driveline vibration.

When I got my car last February, it was kind of annoying so I would drive in 4th often, but after a while either I got used to it or it went away, because now I never notice it. It could also have something to do with the fact that I swapped my EL-42's for LS-Z'2.

Driveline vibration, in this case, can be defined as a vibration throughout the car that occurs when the car is in motion. Usually these vibrations have a defined cause: Wheel out of balance, bent driveline, bad alignment, snow or ice packed somewhere, or some other fixable and identifed issue.

Some TL's have a vibration that occurs at around 50 mph and 1500 rpm. This vibration cannot be fixed since it seems to be a design flaw. It has to do with the frequencies and vibrations of many different things (exhaust, rpm, suspension, wheels etc.) converging to cause the vibration. Google the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

I haven't been able to replicate it in my 05 6M TL, so I may not have an issue. Also I'm not sure how perceptive you have to be to notice it. I notice everything about how my car rides, and 99% of the time it is the road causing the issue. My wife on the other hand, would drive on a flat tire for 100 miles and ask, "Do you smell something?"

Acura has deemed this a "characteristic" of the TL.

I deem it unacceptable in a $35,000 car.

I'm sure you will all help me out if I'm not understanding/communicating it correctly.

I just bought an 06 TL 5AT and noticed the vibe at 20 miles on the way home from the dealership. It feels like the engine is lugging. you would feel the same thing with a manual transmission if you upshift too early and apply power. with a 5AT when you switch to 4th gear the rpm goes up and the vibe goes away. Acura says that this vibe is characteristic of gen 3 TLs, and they are right - they programmed the shift characterisitcs of the 5AT. sounds like they have a lot of TLs they need to reprogram.
