Decision on which TL to get

This might not be the right thread but I have a question. I used to have an 04 6speed tl, but I totaled it. I loved it, therefore I'm trying to purchase another one. Right now there's 3 choices: 2007 black on black 6 speed tl with nav and a spec kit. It has 112k on it and its at used car dealership. They're asking 13,995. Kbb said its worth between 15 and 16. The other tl is a 04 6speed with nav, but it has 140k on it. It's a private seller and he's asking 8,900. The car also has a few mods. And last but not least this other guy is selling an 03 cl type s, with 120k. He's asking 6,000. It's also a 6 speed, nav and has a few mods. Can you guys please help me out in making a decision..

The first and last option sound like good choices. For the 04 it seems like he is asking a little much especially with 140k on it. Some people sell a car with mods thinking that it adds to the value of the car but I think it actually takes away from the value. Personally I keep my car stock and wouldn't consider anything that has been modded. Who knows who did the mods and whether they even knew what they were doing.

If you wanted the 04 I'd say you can definitely talk him down a few thousand. As far as the 07, it sounds like a good deal. Me being a skeptic, I would wonder why it is priced so far below retail. This could either be a red flag or a bargain!

The 03 CLs had that transmission issue that the TLs had, I'm not sure if there would be a problem with the manual though. For only $6000 it still leaves you plenty of room for repair if anything does go wrong.

Whatever you do, MAKE SURE to test drive the car plenty and ALWAYS take it to a mechanic to get it looked at before purchase. You won't regret it.

Good luck with the car shopping.

The CL doesn't sound too bad. If you don't mind a 2 door that is a decent deal plus maybe he will drop another $500. The manual tranny should be no problem.

That's what I was thinking... The cl is definitely a nice ride. A tsx just popped up also. It's a 07 black on black 6 speed with 120k. The dealership is asking 10k I think it's a pretty good deal

If you like a bigger navi screen and TPMS, go with the 07.

I just saw the TSX post. TSX felt under powered when I had a 04 blk/blk TSX navi 6spd. If you care about power, the TL has a pretty good punch compared to the TSX.

If its a manual 07 then it has to be a Type S. I wouldn't bother with an older 04 TL or CL. Get the Type S! Chances are the timing belt service has not been done so expect to have to get that expensive service done relatively soon. Maybe you'll get lucky and it's been done, but usually they aren't lol.

$5,500-$5,000 for the CL is a good buy and manuals do not have the tranny failures as the older CLs and TLs had.

Yea that's what I'm leaning towards. I think it's a good buy, especially since I'm not really trying to spend more than 9-10k.

Or, if you have a decent amount of mechanical skill you can do it yourself for $150 in parts, and a days labor. To be honest I was shocked how easy it was doing the timing belt, and that's with me not taking my time and making a few mistakes along the way.

Mind you I have an 04, but it has the same J32A3 engine as the 06. So, I presume it's the same procedure to change the timing belt.

Seriously, people shouldn't be so afraid to change their timing belts.
