Dealership and Loaner Cars
I need some warranty work done on my car and my dealership(which I have been to many times over the years) wont give me a acura loaner. They will rent a car for me though(like a crappy ford taurus or something like that)
They say its their corporate policy now. Smells like bullshit to me. What do u guys think ?

My 07 TL-S is currently getting some work done and they gave me a free loaner. No questions asked. Only had to sign a paper and give them a copy of my DL. In fact this is my 3rd loaner from Gunn Acura in the past year. First I had a 2011 TL. Then a 2011 TL SH-AWD. And now a 2011 RDX Turbo. Everytime I go I request a different model. lol

Giving out loaners are dealer specific. Goes without saying, they should be giving you an Acura loaner vehicle.

I have had no problems getting acura loaner cars-I do give them advance notice when I need one. I live in NC but try to schedule service when I am closer to the dealer in Pa. I get to choose which one and keep it overnight. This way I can visit with friends. My car is no longer under warranty (expired when it was almost 18 months-50K miles)I know if this dealer has no acura available they do get them from enterprise. They only have a certain amount of acura loaner cars.
Here are my loaners per courtesy of Gunn Acura

depends on the dealer and the availability.
owned mine since new (05), always get a loaner with or without notice if i can't wait. i've had multiple 1st gen TSXs and 2nd gen TSXs (all base) and 2011 TL base, 2012 TL with tech. i was even offered a ZDX, but passed.
the bigger the dealer the more loaner cars they have in their fleet as well as the type of area they are servicing (DC metro in my case).
OP sounds like your dealer is downsizing a little, hence no loaner. you could almost blame acura corp for designing that ugly front grill which contributed to the decreased sales. its not corp, its your dealer's policy.

Point is I now take all the Acuras in the family to Pleasnton and they always give me a loaner.
I also forgot to add, they will also give me a loaner even when I take my 02' MDX in with 150k on the clock.

Prior to Acura, most of my dealer loaners were from an actual rental car company that the dealer contracted with. So it doesn't sound fishy to me, just sounds like they changed how they manage their loaner fleet.
My local Chevy dealer contracted out with a small rental company (owned by another Chevy dealer) to provide loaner vehicles.
My local Toyota dealer contracted out with Enterprise to provide loaner vehicles.
I really didn't care much since I had a car to drive while mine was being worked on. Then again...those loaner vehicles were always at least as nice as my car I was dropping off. I'm sure if my local dealer sent me down to Enterprise I would be a bit irked to drive off in a Cobalt, but I would get over it real quick as I put several hundred miles on someone else's vehicle.

Silver, that is crap-especially if you've done a lot of business with them over the years...

I agree. Not anything I can do about it but take my business elsewhere. Unfortunately though, the next closest Acura dealer is more than twice the distance. Im going to have one last chat with the service manager before I give them the heave ho. I have someone who can work on my car privately, its the warranty work thats the issue.

Well...
talked to the dealer today. They said they have 10 loaner cars and they service about 50 cars a day. They keep the cars for people who buy their cars from the dealership.(i bought my last 2 cars from them, but not my current) They didn't flat out say 100% no as far as giving me a car. Sort of a cross that bridge when we come to it type thing.
We will see when I need work done. I find it hard to believe they service 50 cars a day but I'm not 100% sure as its not my line of work.

It could very well be dealer specific. Some bigger dealers probably have a lot of loaners to loan out but some smaller dealers might not have a lot of cars to loan out. Looks like in your case they don't have enough to loan out and the fact that they keep the loaners for people that buy from their dealership is stupid imo. If you are paying good money to have service done on your Acura at an Acura dealership, regardless of where it was purchased from, you should be entitled to a loaner.
I know that as long as I have service done that takes more than 1 hour, they will give me an Acura loaner (if it is less than an hour you have to wait).

Silver, just for the heck of it, see if you can ask someone else (just in conversation) how many loaner vehicles the dealership has....see if that story/explanation jives.

I call major BS too. If it's their policy, then tell them that you have a policy of not putting up with BS and will take your business elsewhere. What the f? Basically if the service is going to take longer than a few hours, I think a loaner should be made available. At least my SA goes and *reserves* a loaner for me when he believes the service will take some time.

You guys realize that the dealership can probably just tell you to screw off when it comes to providing you with a loaner. Loaners are a priveledge, not a right.

the dealer only have a certain amount of acura loaner cars. I think the dealer is trying to be helpful-if they run out they then rent one from a car rental place. If you do not reserve a acura loaner car ahead of time you take the chance of whether or not they will have one available.

The guy told me they have 10 loaner cars. I believe them as I have never seen more than 2 or 3 on the lot at the same time. Heres my guess.
Sales are hurting. Big time. They no longer have the cash cow(the 3rd gen TL) to carry sales. So sales HAS to make promises to potential customers. This and probably the sales manager has a lot bigger balls than the service manager.
I get their logic, I just dont like it and will take my business elsewhere.

I recently brought my TL in for warranty work and was given a brand new RDX at Acura of Baton Rouge. When i was looking into purchasing a is350 from the Lexus dealership down the street from Acura, I was told by the sales rep that if I didn't by the car from them, that they would not give me a loaner when i brought my car in for service. I always thought that is was "Lexus Corp" policy to get a loaner, but now I know it's different from dealer to dealer. Beyond that, the BMW dealership near my home only has around 10 loaners and when they run out they put the customers into civics and accords from their Honda operations.

it's a car-drive it
I can remember years ago when I would bring my car for service and have someone follow me in there car. They would then drive me either home or to work. Later in the day they would drive me back to the dealer. Loaner cars were a an extreme rarity then.

2 cars ago my vehicle was in for service, and the dealer i dealt with had no loaners left.....so I was given a Toyota Yaris sedan that came from a rental car company. I only had it for one day, but it was by far THE WORST CAR I'VE EVER DRIVEN!!!
