Dealer wiper refills = CRAP?!?!

I picked up a set of wiper refills for my 06 TL a couple of days ago from the dealer and installed them today. First thing I noticed is that the refills do not come with the metal insert to make the blade sturdy and stiff - the stock ones did. As a result, the inserts are very limp and flimsy. I went out today in some rain and these friggin refills are streaking all over the windshield!!! I looks like they're not getting pressed down on the windshield except at the blade holder contact points - basically, they're not stiff enough to maintain pressure over the lengths in between the blade-holder points. Am I doing something wrong?? Did the dealer jerk me? I'm really pissed......

I don't use factory replacements but IIRC you are supposed to re-use the insert in the new blade.

The metal strips must be transferred to the new blade refills before installation- it's standard Honda/Acura practice.
My TL has the stock wiper blades and has gone through a couple of sets of inserts so far-- they work really well, as do the OEM refills on our '04 Odyssey-- no snow in SoCal.

If you disposed of the metal strips but want to keep using the stock blades, you can get replacement "narrow" blade refills by Anco, Trico or Bosch from an auto parts store-- they have integrated aluminum or plastic frames (depending on manufacturer), instead of metal strips, and slide onto the blade arms.

uh...mine from the dealer work perfectly. as for the blades, you're supposed to reuse the one already installed in your oem blades...

they're what...8 bucks total? i've only had to swap them out once, and so yes, you're doing something wrong?

why in the world would you buy wiper blades from the dealer....what a waist of money....

as with moth things, there are always better alternatives to the oem stuff that needs routine maint, or replacing....ie wiper blades!!

Ummmm - Never mind!! I'm an idiot. I take back all the curses I directed at Honda/Acura yesterday. Re-used the metal insert, re-installed and I've fallen in love with my windshield wipers again. Not bad for $5 a piece and the previous ones lasted me over 2 years in NYC. Let's make believe this thread never happened, ok?

I don't know... The OEM blades lasted less than a year in the PacNW weather. The PIAA Super Silicone I put on there have been working great for almost 3 years now...

And FWIW, when I used Trico or Anco wiper blades, they lasted only a few weeks before they started chattering or streaking. Complete junk in my opinion.

lol. Oops. I feel that the oem ones are fine for the purpose. Cost about 15 bucks for inserts and they last a reasonable amount of time.

Here you go Carrie and the rest of you.. here's the link where we beat this subject to death a few months ago.. LoL. The link to purchase them on Amazon is on page 2 post number 71 and some reviews are scattered on page 3.

Also.. www.ltbmotorsports.com has them as well, if you click on the PIAA lighting menu you'll see it. I do not know whos' cheaper. Just make sure the links I posted was for the right size, I do not want to be responsible if I f'd the sizes up but I'm sure I didnt. Haha

Also make sure to get the whole blade for the first time conversion, cuz it has the silicone starter pack towlettes and dont' cheap out and just get the refills. Yes the refills will fit the stock blade. Read through that thread.. it explains it all.

The part numbers for the PIAA refills from Pep Boys are below. When I replaced the stock blades I just bought the refills and was very satisfied with the results. I need to replace them after about a year of use but I need to decide whether to get just the refills or the entire assembly.

PIAA Wiper Blade Refill 26" - 94065
PIAA Wiper Blade Refill 19" - 94048

Hope that helps anybody looking. Let me know if there are cheaper prices elsewhere.

Edit - Just realized there are actually a little cheaper now then when I bought them last year.
