Dealer Jive or Straight talk??

Ok, a month ago my 2006 TL rcv'd an Oil Change at the Acura dealer, just after I drove off the "Oil Pressure Indicator light" came on and I drove back to the dealer. (I figuired they didn't put the drain plug or filter back on correctly and I lost pressure)

Well the Service Mgr says (after about 15 minutes of them having my car again) it was just a "sensor" and they must haved knocked it during the oil change. Then said they were going to update my cars computer with new Acura Sensor settings because Acura stated the sensors were too sensitive. Anyone heard of this?

First, Does the dealer do computer updates at all?

All has been fine with the car since but not sure about this kinda talk... thanks

Wonder how they would have knocked the sensor during an oil change??? Reason why I don't trust taking my car to the dealer for an oil change... I just do it myself with more peace of mind.

not sure about the software update, but hopefully all is well with the sensor and oil pan.

Have you actually seen the area where those mechanics works or least take a look at what those guys look like? They always have a sitting area for you to sit and read magazines. I've actually walked to the back of the dealership and see them yacking and goofing around.

Yes dealers do software updates, but this sounds fishy.

You should have asked them to put what he stated (knocked oil level sensor loose causing the indicator light and the software update to drop sensitivity to the systems) on the service report so there will be written proof of what you were told in case some 'wear' problems come up later. If they were BS'ing about what happened, I would think they would be very hesitant about putting it in writing since it will be their ass if it is a lie.
BTW, Arent the oil pressure sensors not accessible from the outside of the motor to be 'knocked' around. I thought they were in areas where parts have to be removed to access them. If that is the case with our motor, what he said is 99.99% BS and they probably let you drive out without refilling your oil.

Crappy things happen sometimes. I had a friend get service done at the dealer where part of the service was to rotate the tires. The dealer forgot to wrench down the lugs on one wheel and his wheel fell off after leaving the dealer and damged his suspension and fender. Luckily, he did not hit anyone when his wheel flew off.

BTW, a simple check under the hood on the Dipstick could have confirmed this. I would adopt this as standard procedure when someone else is changing your oil. You want to make sure they filled it properly and didn't make a mess of things. One time the mechanic forgot to put my Dad's oil cap back on after refilling. Made a huge mess.

I agree always check the work... lift the hood and make sure the stick and cap are on... As for knocking something loose and so forth. I have not crawled around this car like I do my 1970 442 W30... but I can say that it sounds weird to me... There always seems to be some spin that gets put on things... I should know that is part of what i do for a living...

Yeah, that sounds a little weird. Even if there is a sensor, it seems it would be internal to me. I would question them on that one.
