Dealer Installed A-Spec vs Do It Yourself

Hi all

Trying to determine if the $6000 price tag for an Aspec install by the dealer is actually worth it vs buying the parts individually and doing it myself (or pay a local joint to do it).

From what I have been reading so far, buying the rims, rubber, springs/shocks, skirts and spoiler from places like ebay is going to run me somewhere in the neighborhood of $3500 to $4000. This does not include the Aspec steering wheel - which I have read conflicting reports about it not being part of the package anymore - nor does it include the Brembo (sp?) brake pads which I would get from the dealer install since mine is an automatic trans.

Please correct me if I am wrong on any of that.

Also, I understand that there is a warranty with the dealer install, whereas the do it yourself install may not be warranted, at least to a satisfactory level.

So the question is - is it worth it to try to avoid the dealer package?

This would all depend on your priorities....cash vs warrantee issue. It is just a body kit IMO....not much to warrantee...but thats your call totally. There is the suspension....but again...once its on...whats gonna fail? As for steering wheel....I do not believe that it is included in the kit any longer...you have to buy that seperately now. Also....they are scorched brake pads...not brembos....brembo calipers are on the manuals....we just get upgraded scorched brake pads on automatics.....and I believe the fronts are the only difference from reading through the literature in the package....I have a set right here in front of me (PN08P89-SEP-200) and it has front and rear pads in box....but directions clearly state that the fronts are the only ones scorched...so backs must be the same as stock. Again...yes....Acura states in all the literature that the warantee is all good and valid when installed at time of purchase.....but it is an OEM acura part which also carries a warrantee....part fails...it is still under warantee? IMHO some of that warantee talk is "sales-speak" to get you to install at time of purchase? Thats just my opinion though....I could be 100% wrong there....but I dont really expect to get any hassle from my dealer should there be some sort of MAJOR failure....but then again....I dont see what can go wrong so long as you get a quality install job done or do it yourself, provided you have the skillset to do the job....its not that hard to do yourself.

Yep...checked the Acura site....the steering wheel is indeed no longer listed as part of the deal...check acura....tl.....performance....A-spec....and it will list all but the wheel.
